POSITION SUMMARY

The Japanese Bartender plays a crucial role in providing exceptional beverage service, particularly in establishments that specialize in Japanese cuisine or have a Japanese-themed bar. This position requires a deep understanding of Japanese culture, ingredients, and traditional drink-making techniques to create unique and authentic Japanese-inspired cocktails and beverages.

Key Responsibilities:

Cocktail Preparation:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of Japanese-inspired cocktails, including classics like sake-based cocktails, shochu highballs, and umeshu sours, as well as innovative creations that showcase seasonal ingredients and flavors.

  • Demonstrate precision and attention to detail in measuring ingredients, mixing techniques, and presentation to ensure consistent quality and authenticity in every drink.

Sake Knowledge and Service:

  • Possess extensive knowledge of different types of sake, including sake classifications, brewing methods, and flavor profiles, to provide recommendations and guidance to guests.

  • Offer sake tasting flights and educate guests about sake culture, serving etiquette, and food pairings to enhance their overall dining experience.

Japanese Beverage Selection:

  • Curate and maintain a diverse selection of Japanese beverages, including sake, shochu, whisky, beer, and non-alcoholic options, to cater to the preferences of guests and complement the restaurant's menu offerings.

  • Source high-quality Japanese spirits, liqueurs, and ingredients from reputable suppliers and producers to ensure authenticity and freshness in the beverage program.

Customer Interaction and Service:

  • Engage with guests in a friendly and welcoming manner, providing personalized recommendations, answering questions about drinks and ingredients, and anticipating their needs to deliver exceptional service.

  • Create a lively and interactive atmosphere at the bar, entertaining guests with flair bartending techniques, storytelling, and insights into Japanese drinking culture.

Bar Operations and Maintenance:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the bar area, including bar tools, glassware, and equipment, to uphold hygiene standards and efficiency in service.

  • Monitor inventory levels of beverages, garnishes, and supplies, and communicate with management to place orders and replenish stock as needed.

Continuous Learning and Development:

  • Stay updated on industry trends, new product releases, and best practices in mixology and beverage service, attending workshops, tastings, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

  • Collaborate with the management team to develop seasonal cocktail menus, promotional events, and special beverage offerings to attract guests and drive sales.

Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; and complete safety training and certifications. Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests’ service needs, and thank guests with genuine appreciation. Speak with others using clear and professional language. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards. Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print). Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance. Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces as well as up and down stairs and/or service ramps. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Related Work Experience: At least 1 year of related work experience.

Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience.

License or Certification: None
