BASIC FUNCTIONS:

This position is responsible for the managing and supervising of all Production Supervisors and the shift to shift activities to support the objectives of the Jasper Facility and NA Steel. The incumbent will supervise the profitable and safe operation of the manufacturing functions in a growth environment. This will be accomplished through employee motivation and accountability, plant scheduling, efficiency in processes, assuring a quality product, and maintaining good management/associate relations while assisting in controlling plant operating cost. This person will actively participate in departmental safety; demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors and conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures. This person will lead or serve on the Safety Leadership Team to create, evaluate, and press forward safety initiatives.

NATURE & SCOPE:

The Manufacturing Supervisor of the Jasper Facility reports directly to the General Manager. The incumbent’s area of responsibility is a multi shift operation in the fabrication, finishing, and the shipping of the products manufactured. The Manufacturing Supervisor has the primary responsibility for the overall productivity of the plant and is responsible for identifying and scheduling critical and preventative maintenance of the equipment, safety of all shift employees, and ensuring a quality product is produced. The goal is to insure that each employee under the Manufacturing Supervisor accepts ownership and responsibility for quality, safety, and maintenance of their equipment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Responsible for directing, training, and assessing departmental supervisors and leadmen in order to meet or exceed profit objectives of the Jasper facility and the Division.

Manages staffing levels for the manufacturing, finishing, and shipping areas.

Manages activities related to shop floor control, packets, dispatching, labor reporting, and materials reporting. Oversee all related activities as to the manufacturing and shipping of all products manufactured in the facility.

Communicate with others to determine the proper procedure to get the task accomplished.

Analyze set-up times for accuracy, review labor hours, meet production control schedules, capacity plan and insure on time deliveries.

Must work with everyone in the organization to improve production times, production techniques, and quality issues.

Will implement and monitor procedures for proper logging of materials when received and track the progress of customer orders and materials until shipped.

Establishes and enforces quality expectations to meet or exceed the customers’ expectations.

Promote, institute, and maintain a safe, clean, and hazard free work environment.

Will be responsible for providing leadership and compliance to Valmont Jasper’s loss control objectives e.g. OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Control costs and expenses by working with employees and teams to reduce consumables and eliminate waste.

Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent should possess strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively deal with other managers at the Jasper facility, off-site facilities, and outside vendors. The incumbent must interface with others in a professional manner, exhibiting a high degree of confidence, flexibility, knowledge, integrity, and an understanding of human nature.

The incumbent must possess advanced analytical and decision making skills to perform the overall functions of the position. Strong communication skills are essential to effectively disseminate information to management and subordinates. The incumbent must possess demonstrated skills in: shop floor control, participative management, performance management, labor reporting, safety programs, team building, formulation of budgets and controls, and quality programs.

This person must have performed worked in a heavy manufacturing environment in a managerial and supervisory capacity. The incumbent should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Management or have sufficient experience (5 to 7 years) that would provide through knowledge of manufacturing practices and leadership skills.
