Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager of Fleet Management, the Maintenance and Fleet Equipment Coordinator is in charge of supporting both Maintenance and Terminal Operations through analysis to optimize equipment utilization, equipment life cycles, and operational needs across the network. This person understands effective processes and associated technology to support Saia’s systems. The individual will offer process change input to improve fleet allocation and identify opportunities to support Saia’s Operational and Company objectives. In addition, this role is responsible for the daily management of our sales car fleet, equipment disposals and various reporting around fleet equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Works with maintenance leadership to identify life-cycle improvement opportunities

  • Establishes and maintains all assigned equipment to specific use

  • Will produce regular reporting on equipment run-rates, forecasted end-of-life and current use recommendation

  • Responsible for working with maintenance and operation teams for adjustments to tractor, trailer and forklift pools

  • Development of analysis used for equipment utilization, inventory, fleet allocation, attrition, growth opportunities.

  • Analysis of capital expenditures, fleet age and cost, capacity, rentals as it pertains to purchase needs, balance and turnover.

  • Will use various methods and technologies to determine pool counts and needs by location

  • Monitors current equipment for life cycle placement and forecasted run rates

  • Coordinates all auto fleet activities including purchasing, maintenance and trade outs.

  • Reviews and approves incoming auto repair estimates.

  • Works with drivers of company vehicles to properly maintain company assets.

  • Manages and maintain all aspects of the Donlen (or similar) relationship.

  • Works closely with Finance to complete the purchase and sale of disposal tractors, trailers and forklifts.

  • Prepares various reports pertaining to fleet and maintenance activities.

  • Processes and reconciles equipment invoices.

  • Communicates effectively and professionally with all personnel inside and outside of the company, including at the executive level.

  • Performs additional duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation management, supply chain, or related

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to provide direction to terminals on fleet management issues

  • Experience with general automotive and/or heavy duty maintenance concepts

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work in a collaborating working environment that demands interaction with employees at all organization levels

  • Self-motivated; ability to work under minimal supervision, superior problem solving skills, and have the ability to diagnose technical issues and maintain focus on resolutions.
