As a UHS Neurology nurse, you will work in a very demanding and exciting, fast-paced environment. Quality, patient-centered care is our priority, and the ability to think quickly on your feet is essential for working on this unit. Nurses who thrive in our unit are ones who are not afraid of a challenge, are confident in their problem-solving skills, and can work well with their close-knit teammates. You will care for a variety of short and long-term patients, including but not limited to, patients who are post-op neck or back, those who have been transferred from the ICU, stroke, cardio, med surg, or neurobehavioral patients, and those suffering from seizures.

Our team works incredibly well together and is eager to welcome new teammates. The most rewarding part of working in our unit is the great team you’re surrounded by during every shift. You’ll be working with seasoned nurses who provide mentorship and are a great resource to learn from. Nurses who are drawn to the hustle of our unit, choose to stay in our unit with plenty of opportunities for growth and learning. We have a Unit Coordinator on-site to assist our nurses with everything from patient intake to keeping track of breaks. We also have a nurse educator available for any questions you may have, especially during your orientation period.

Qualifications

As an experienced RN who’s new to UHS Neurology, your orientation period will last about 60-90 days. During this time, you will learn basic coronary skills, if you don’t already have this experience. You will also be exposed to and work with neurosurgical patients. Having prior post-op experience is a huge plus, but if not, we will make sure to train you thoroughly on post-op drains. You will also become accustomed to the high load of this unit and learn how to adapt and prioritize accordingly. Your teammates will be there for you along the way, as your success supports our patient’s success.

Your patients will be dealing with a tremendous amount of pain in addition to their medical needs. It’s of the utmost importance that our Neurology nurses are understanding and compassionate towards all patients, families, and teammates while working in a high-stress environment.

Our Neurology team’s core values are teamwork and compassion, and we live these values every day. If your values match ours and you are reliable, present, have a strong work ethic, and are able to adapt and prioritize quickly while providing quality care in an ever-changing environment, you will be a perfect fit!
