Job Summary The Community Mortgage Banker is an experienced lending position that is responsible for sourcing and originating residential mortgage loans for WaFd Bank, particularly those that qualify as Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) eligible residential loans. This lender will work with community-based referral sources such as real estate agents, brokers, builders, affordable housing providers, and non-profit community organizations. This role plays an important role in helping the Bank support the homebuying credit needs of its communities while fostering working relationships with organizations serving low and moderate income (LMI) and minority borrowers. The Community Mortgage Banker reflects the corporate values and ethics of WaFd Bank and exhibits leadership in the following areas: sales effectiveness and a focus on loan production; representing WaFd Bank in the broader community; providing a high-quality customer experience from initial meeting through closing; building and maintaining ties in support of WaFd Bank's community development initiatives, fostering productive relationships with new and existing clients and other referral sources; registering and maintaining active status with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR); and originating mortgage loans within the assigned geographic area. This position reports to the Retail Division Manager. Prospects for mortgage loan clients, particularly among LMI consumers, by building community-based partnerships. Participates in select down payment programs for low-to-moderate income homebuyers. Attends a minimum of 2-3 homebuyer and financial education events or meetings per month to raise consumer and community awareness of WaFd Bank loan products. Develops and maintains community networks leading to small business and community development lending/investment opportunities for the Bank. Encourages bank participation and support of charitable and non-profit service opportunities and helps ensure banker participation is documented. Originates consumer residential mortgage products, particularly those qualified as CRA loan programs designed to support LMI borrowers. Maintains the integrity of WaFd Bank's interests in all lending activities. Originates loans by accurately completing loan applications, interviewing prospective clients and discussing loan options to best meet clients' needs. Applies proper pricing based on current Bank programs and rate sheets. Collects, documents and analyzes financial and related data to build a complete and thorough application for Underwriting to decision. Proactively communicates loan status and progress to the client. Complies with laws, rules and regulations, avoiding any real or perceived conflicts of interest. Other duties as assigned. Build cross referral business with Retail, Commercial and Community Banking groups. Develops and maintains close working relationship with assigned branches to develop and build deposit relationships with new mortgage clients.
