The Seattle Times Data Processing Technician in Kent, Washington

The Seattle Times is seeking a Data Processing Technician to join our Operations team in Kent, WA. The Data Processing Technician operates desktop computer using a variety of software to maintain and generate mailing lists, tags, reports and maps.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Enters alphabetic, numeric, or symbolic data from source documents into computer following format displayed on screen. Compares data entered with source documents, or re-enters data in verification format on screen to detect errors. Deletes incorrectly entered data, and re-enters correct data. Compiles, sorts, and verifies accuracy of data to be entered.

  • Import data into databases, set parameters, run queries, review results, and export data to a variety of media.

  • Print labels, topsheets, tags, and reports.

  • Create inkjet mail files.

  • Enters zip codes and routes into a database, produce count reports and print in a variety of formats. 

  • NYT daily processing – Book flight, compile and print labels, postal documents, print orders, bundle top-sheets, and reports.

  • Record STC and NYT roll stock usage in online inventory database.

  • Maintain NYT daily waste report.

  • Provide backup, vacation relief, and cross training for other Production Support team members including front desk phone and reception.

     

    Qualifications:

  • Education: College degree preferred.

  • Experience: One or more years of experience in data entry and database work.

  • Experience in customer service.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Organizational skills to handle a high volume of moderately complex transactions and meet daily/weekly/monthly deadlines.

  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadline pressure and as a member of a team.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy, and excellent math ability.

     

    Work Location: This is a fully onsite position at our Kent Operations Facility.

     

    Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $41,200 to $55,100. We typically pay between $41,200 and $50,500, depending on experience and qualifications.
