King and George LLC Motor Vehicle Mechanic in Kodiak, Alaska

Performs general maintenance and repairs to a variety of motor vehicle equipment. The work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Individuals assigned to this classification will operate under the general direction of a Shop Lead and in accordance with established procedures and methods at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Kodiak, Alaska.

Primary Duties:

  • Repairs, rebuilds, and/or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, tractors, boat motors, or UTV's
  • Work involves most of the following
  • Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts grinding and adjusting valves rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems
  • Use diagnostic tools and computers to troubleshoot needed repairs
  • Fully testing all equipment after servicing and/or repairs
  • Changing tires and repairing flats
  • Keep work area clean and orderly; follow all work safety rules and procedures
  • Ensure accuracy of work orders by charging parts and labor to proper work order segments
  • Perform other relevant job duties as directed by manager
