Responsibilities Conduct safety education courses through formal training sessions, guest lectures, and supervisor-employee discussions. Schedule and conduct compliance inspections on work sites. Serve as the key staff specialist, responsible for providing policy analysis on a wide variety of occupational health and safety programs, issues, and initiatives. Evaluate safety and occupational health programs to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines. Assist in safety training and development program for District personnel. Provide policy analysis on a wide variety of occupational health and safety programs, issues, and initiatives. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes managing a safety and occupational health program; conducting work site inspections and construction plan reviews; serving as an expert and authoritative representative of the safety program; and preparing supplemental guidelines in the form of directives and hazard notification messages. OR Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Safety and Health Safety and Health Training and Education Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Hazard Control Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 1 year. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 2 years unless mission changes; approval required. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term Appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term Appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
