Argonne National Laboratory Financial Analyst in Lemont, Illinois

We're seeking a Financial Analyst IV to be a key member of our Division’s management team, focusing on budgetary and accounting information for the Strategic Security Sciences (SSS) Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct complex financial analyses, cost control, and trend identification.

  • Prepare and manage monthly, routine, and ad hoc financial reports.

  • Respond to budgetary and accounting requests from DOE, Laboratory management, Directorate management, Division management, and programmatic staff.

  • Prepare financial data for reviews and presentations, cost estimates for funding proposals, and expenditure plans.

  • Provide consulting on complex financial issues, including proposal development.

  • Monitor spending, analyze variances, and resolve financial discrepancies.

  • Oversee funds control for purchases, subcontracts, service contracts, travel, and material orders.

  • Develop knowledge of Familiarity with Strategic Partnership Projects and CRADAs.

Position Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of budget management, financial analysis, and accounting principles.

  • Ability to handle tight deadlines and quick turnarounds that can vary between a couple of hours and a month.

  • Proficiency in business applications and database management (Excel, Access).

  • Understanding of direct and indirect allocation, and full cost recovery procedures.

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities, expedited review and approval requests often needing to be completed within an hour.

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently, establish effective working relationships, and communicate effectively.

  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to prioritize and adapt to changes.

  • Ability to cross-train and mentor team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 4+ years of experience, or equivalent.
