The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for a full-time Custodian in our Police Department. Position Summary

This civilian position performs manual work to keep Police Department buildings and adjacent grounds in clean and orderly condition.

This is a full time, hourly non-exempt position with flexibility in hours working Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with availability to work day, evening, weekend, holiday and special event shifts as needed.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Heavy cleaning: Cleans, waxes and strips floors; shampoos rugs; washes walls and glass; and removes trash.

  • Light to moderate cleaning: Sweeps and mops floors; dusts and cleans offices, meeting rooms and public areas; gathers and empties trash; cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; unstops sinks and toilets; and vacuums.

  • Other duties: Arranges tables and chairs for meetings, recreational activities and events; monitors facility security and safety by locking doors; checks electrical appliances for hazards; reports any mechanical problems or the need for major repairs; sweeps sidewalks and removes snow and ice; assists with minor maintenance on facility equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, etc.).

  • Clerical: Keeps records of janitorial materials, supplies and inventory; orders and stocks supplies and materials as needed.

    Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Minor painting duties inside and outside of facilities, as needed.

  • Escorts contractors, vendors and/or other personnel while in the station.

  • Drives City and/or personal vehicle to off-site training courses, meetings and other City facilities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compliance with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license.

    Desired: One year of custodial experience.

    Environment and Physical Factors

    This position requires the strength and agility to lift, carry and maneuver heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; the ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials; the ability to work in extreme weather conditions; the ability to work safely in all situations; and the ability to visually inspect work and read labels on cleaning/chemical containers.

Rate of pay to $18.13 to $20.41 per hour based on previous experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
