We are adding a Quality Manager in Project (QMiP), Welding Structures to the team. In this key role, you will operationally support Quality Management as a process expert and partner by coordinating all weld aspects between design/engineering, production requirements and inspection capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Review weld requirements for carshell structures and interpret weld requirements

• Review/clarify weld requirements based on parent materials, equipment, fixturing, quality and acceptance requirements

• Define, coordinate, conduct, interpret testing for weld qualification

• Define qualification requirements for welders and welding operators

• Support and direct weld training related to area of responsibility

• Work with suppliers to review their weld capabilities and develop processes to successfully deliver welded products with zero defects. Travel (10-20%) to other domestic Mobility sites required.

What you will be doing:

• Work with designs of complex welded structures, drawings, models, bills of material

• Develop, update and maintain complex weld inspection planning

• Define dimensional inspection requirements, forms and record storage and manipulation

• Review/approve QA documents-includes NDT, Dims, Q-Gates

• Update inspection tracking regularly and feedback issues to inspection staff

• Train inspection staff on requirements for weld, dimensional and other inspections on welded structures

• Review all ECO documents related to weld-update above

• Attend shop floor meetings- Coach Carshell weld

• Create First Article Inspection packages and conduct FAI's w/customer-open items-FAI reports

• Review Customer Requirements CDRL's

To thrive in this role, you have:

• Broad understanding of metallurgy related to welding processes

• Detailed weld definition and strong weld inspection capability

• Exposure and thorough understanding of all type of weld destructive and nondestructive test methods

• 5+ years’ experience of highly engineered, complex structural steel systems

• 5+ years’ experience of weld inspection and/ or weld definition

• 5 years of VT inspection experience on Level 2

• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Weld Inspector, preferably Senior CWI

• Welding Engineer degree or equivalent experience in defining weld requirements (at least 5 years)

• Experience with Microsoft Office suite of tools, particularly Excel, Powerpoint and Word

• Exposure to EN15085-2 and AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.3 & D1.6 standards.

We would be impressed if you had:

• BS or MS in an Engineering discipline.

• Rail Manufacturing experience

• PMP certification

• Qualified QMS Auditor

The base salary range for this position in Lexington, NC, is $88,000 - $119,100. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
