Eastern Ohio Correction Center Resident Support Specialist in Lisbon, Ohio

Position: Resident Support Specialist Type: Security Reports to: Facility Manager I PURPOSE The primary purpose of the Resident Support Specialist position is to provide direct care to the offenders who are in the custody of the Eastern Ohio Correction Center, and to provide them with a safe, secure, and healthy environment. This position involves teaching and counseling criminal offenders on daily living skills, personal hygiene, and social skills. Additionally, the Resident Support Specialist plans and facilitates group activities both on and off-site, transports offenders to and from activities, medical appointments, community service work sites, and employment sites. Finally, the Resident Support Specialist monitors the offender's behavior, and all aspects of daily living by the offender, and records this information. II ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES a) Provide direct care and supervision to offenders in the custody of the Eastern Ohio Correction Center, and ensure a safe, secure, and healthy environment inside and outside of the facility. b) Monitor offender visitation with family and friends. c) Transport offenders to and from program activities, medical appointments, community service work sites, and employment sites as needed. d) Enforce rules and regulations of the living unite, and use a calm, non-abrasive tone communicated in a respectful manner. e) Monitor offender behavior, give them specific choices and their consequences, and enforce them with effective use of approved sanctions when necessary. f) Effectively reinforce pro-social behavior and rewards with tangible reinforcement. g) Prepare incident reports, rule violation reports, and other documents relevant to offender behavior and activities within the living unit. h) Conduct periodic safety and security rounds, spot-checks, and searches. i) Ensure the safety and security of the living unit. j) Operate security and video surveillance equipment. k) Conduct admissions processing of newly admitted offenders. I) Serve as a positive role-model and representative of the facility by displaying compassion, fairness, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions with other members of the Eastern Ohio Correction Center community, and the general public. III OHER DUTUES & RESPONSIBILITIES a) Prepare files and paperwork necessary for offender's admission and release from the facility b) Supervise and document chemical uses, and completion of offender housekeeping assignments. c) Adhere to key, tool, and chemical inventory and control procedures. d) Supervise meal services. e) Record/document any maintenance needed on a maintenance repair log. f) Dispense prescriptions and over-the-counter medications and supplies. g) Maintain property inventories. h) Assist offenders with homework and other programmatic assignments. i) Plan and facilitate on and off-site group recreational and program activities. j) Teach and counsel criminal offenders regarding daily living skills, including personal hygiene, money management, housekeeping duties, and social skills/interactions. k) Communicate with a variety of law enforcement, criminal justice, and community agencies and organizations. 1) Answer facility telephones. m) Complete a minimum of forty (40) hours of in-service training per year. n) Participate in facility committee meetings, and other facility functions. o) Conduct scheduled, and non-scheduled counts. p) Investigate incidents. q) Responsible for conducting urinalysis testing, and document results.
