GE Vernova Mechanical Engineering Intern (12 months) in Lisburn, United Kingdom

Job Description Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Monitoring and Diagnostics team, based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Our mission is to develop state of the art monitoring technologies, generally deployed in an Electrical Substation, allowing a customer to understand and optimize the operating condition of their Electrical Power Transformers, circuit breakers and other substation assets.

We are looking for a dynamic and talented individual to join our Technology department. This role encompasses various aspects of Mechanical Engineering, from design to testing and certification. Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating in Product Development processes.

  • Identifying and creating innovative solutions.

  • Working on continuous improvement projects..

  • Supporting our global supply chain to sustain manufacturing and supplier processes.

The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach, a strong problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a cross-functional team to achieve agreed deliverables, from product concept to final certification and launch, within set timelines.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for developing mechanical designs, using CAD modelling/simulation tools.

  • Ensure designs meet and comply with all relevant quality and regulatory standards.

  • Development and execution of verification and validation test plans for new product projects.

  • Support continuous improvement projects across the Business.

Essential Criteria

  • Candidates should either have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or be currently pursuing one (Mechatronics and Aeronautical also considered).

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.

  • CAD experience - Solidworks / AutoCAD with experience of creating detailed drawings, BOMs and specifications.

  • ‘Hands on’ approach to design & testing (ability to assemble and modify prototypes etc.).

  • Competency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment or independently on multiple projects with strict completion deadlines.

Desired Criteria

  • Previous industrial work experience.

  • Experience of simulation tools (e.g. Ansys, Solidworks simulation).

  • Experience using FMEA, RCA, 8D tools.
