In this position…

Join Ford Motor Company's innovative team dedicated to the design and release of components for electric, hybrid and internal combustion (ICE) transmissions/transaxles. We are looking for professionals with product development experience in component design and release for our EV power units and ICE automatic transmissions. Specific experience with clutch and integrated support assemblies would be a plus. Join us to shape the future of automotive technology.

The automotive industry is moving quickly with a blend of electric, hybrid and ICE powertrains to meet customer and market demands. With each vehicle line requiring competitive performance and new technology, there is an expanding need for component engineers to support both new and modified powertrains required to meet each application’s need. Clutch and support assemblies offer opportunities for detailed innovation, while managing a complex assembly and interaction. You will have the unique opportunity to own all stages of the product design, development, integration and release as an engineer for transmission and driveline components. Your work will span from the product’s concept to full scale production, with an emphasis on quality, cost, weight and functional performance. In this role you will:

  • Develop components and sub-systems in conjunction with powertrain systems, internal/external global manufacturing teams

  • Lead component design, FMA, verification and validation

  • Manage prototype and production build delivery and quality

What you'll do…

The engineer will lead and support the following design engineering activities from pre-program through launch:

  • Interface and integrate designs with engineers of surrounding components and systems (structures, clutches, gears, bearing, pumps, mounts, e-motor, etc.)

  • Develop structural design to meet powertrain and vehicle attributes including strength, durability and NVH attributes

  • Lead purchasing, finance, and cost estimating in supplier selection to achieve program targets

  • Interface with internal and external manufacturing teams (casting, machining, assembly)

  • Release 3-D and 2-D CAD that meets system and component design requirements

  • Support Ford CAE/CFD analysis prior to tooling kick-off and physical testing (Flow, strength, NVH, casting analysis)

  • Support Ford physical testing of structural design and/or attribute performance

  • Complete FMA and related quality documentation

  • Kick-off and manage supplier or Ford manufacturing/tooling delivery

  • Lead Ford internal and external supplier CPMT (Component Product Management Team)

  • Deliver Final Engineering Sign-off and production vehicle launch at Ford assembly plants

You'll have...

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).

Even better, if you have …

Preferred

  • Industry experience with component design and release process (components could include high pressure die cast castings, clutches and more complex sub-system integration)

  • Industry experience with aluminum machining with a strong knowledge of machining best practices and GD&T

  • Working knowledge of casting simulation tools (Magma)

  • Working knowledge of CAD and CAE (Catia)

  • Applying 8D, fish-bone, and DOE problem solving methodology

  • Creating Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, & DFMEA

  • Reviewing CAE models and CAD drawings

  • Maintaining DVP&R, including DV sign-off

  • Self-starter who can identify improvements and is able to motivate others

  • Applicant should have good communication skills with ability to present information in a concise manner

  • Ability to think like a businessperson, but be technically astute (your component is your business)

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at a time

  • Ability to work in and lead teams. Driving projects to closure through collaboration.
