At BEC LS we are building a world class global R&D capability to support our ambitious flow cytometry strategy and drive long term growth for the company. An important part of this transformation is the core Hardware development organization that oversees all aspects of system related designs and architectures.

We are looking for a global leader with broad cross functional experience to drive the continued evolution and optimization of the global Hardware organization to be best in class, not only leading the R&D function, but acting ensure we have an eye on the new technology trends to drive the next generation flow cytometer architecture. This leader will build strategic partnerships with other senior leaders & functions across BEC LS matrix organizations, lead global organization with teams distributed in China and various locations in the USA. This

For the Hardware R&D Sr. Manager, this strategic and business-critical role will represent a unique opportunity to work with a world class team during an exciting phase of capability building, gain valuable experience and visibility to senior executives, priorities and objectives, and to make a lasting impact on a thriving organization by establishing best in class practices in support of our growth & life cycle mgmt. portfolio.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Grow global and geographically distributed talent to best-in-class in product design and development taking a methodical design approach and utilizing various simulation and analysis tools including FEA, CFD, and Zemax to name a few

  • Identify skillsets needed to continue to set the organization up to be on the forefront of innovation and adoption of new technology trends

  • Develop business objectives and strategies which are linked to Beckman Coulter Life Sciences goals. Provide leadership and direction to ensure effective execution of these strategies.

  • Build a strong technical leadership team in the Mechanical, Electrical, Optical and Fluidics and Firmware engineering areas and strengthen the capabilities the team currently has and Provide coaching, mentoring, nurturing and establish growth and development opportunities for staff.

  • Have a thorough understanding of the product development process in FDA-regulated industry

  • Partner with team to methodically assess different design choices and establish a clear understanding of tradeoffs/impact parameters

  • Partner with global supply chain and marketing teams to establish product structure that aligns with product offering, service, and marketing strategies.

    The required qualifications for the job include:

  • Advanced degree in the Engineering fiend with 15+ years of experience in R&D product development or equivalent

  • Experience in working in diagnostics, medical device, life sciences, or biotechnology industry preferred

  • Ability to build strong cross-functional technical teams who demonstrated successful achievement through product release

  • Strong ability to self-manage, take initiative, organize, and prioritize multiple projects at various stages in a fast-paced environment.

  • Broad and deep technical knowledge base across engineering systems including Mechanical design, electronics architecture, signal integrity, excitation and detection optics design, spectral overlap analysis, and thermal modeling.

  • Proven experience building, leading, developing, and managing high performing technical teams

  • Leadership and communication responsibilities across the company to provide status updates, communicate challenges & successes, and escalate issues and resolutions.

The salary range for this role is $170K-$220K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
