Position Description:

Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Act as the "Responsible Officer" (RO) of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program and as the "Principal Designated School Official" (PDSO) of the F-1 Student Program ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

  • Oversee university policy and the United States Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulation compliance, including recertification applications and fees to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s students.

  • Oversee regulation compliance of the Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to maintain Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) authorization.

  • Oversee the university's employment-based immigration program.

  • Maintain a student and/or scholar case load (e.g., F-1, J-1, H1-B) to support the operations of the ISSS team.

  • Oversee the records systems for keeping required confidential and sensitive personal information concerning foreign students and scholars.

  • Oversee advising services of foreign students and scholars on cross-cultural, financial, academic, and other issues pertaining to their immigration status.

  • Maintain liaison with appropriate government agencies and other university units/offices and ensure the proper recertification of the ISSS

  • Ensure the proper recertification and maintenance of ISSS operations.

  • Support the professional development of the staff.

  • Provide materials and updated information to the university community concerning international students and scholars and their programs along with immigration policies.

  • Represent the office and university at regional and national professional conferences as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree or higher with previous experience and knowledge of post-secondary academic systems. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident under the US Immigration Act to fulfill key functions of this position. Demonstrated experience with SEVIS as a DSO and RO, and processing J-1 and H1B petitions. Experience with Strategic Planning, Assessment and Risk Management. Knowledge of Banner and other information and tracking systems (e.g., Terra Dotta, SEVIS). Experience working abroad and higher education settings.
