SUMMARY

The ECSE Teacher/Service Provider will provide direct instruction, support, and consultation to young children with disabilities or developmental delays as outlined in sections R340.1754 and R340.1755 of the Revised Administrative Rules for Special Education. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and document curriculum, lesson plans, specially designed instruction, and teaching methods. 
  • Provide instruction directed at developing skills in the following instructional areas: self-care, communication skills, physical and motor development, personal and social development, perceptual development skills, and cognitive skills.
  • Assess, develop, and write student development objectives for each student in appropriate curricular areas.
  • Refer, coordinate, and collaborate with ancillary services as needed.
  • Exemplify effective and relevant teaching strategies, methods, and practices that enhance the students' learning environment.
  • Conduct and participate in Multi-disciplinary Evaluations Team (MET) evaluations, MET meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings with parents and staff, and staff meetings.
  • Plan and design IEPs to meet student needs and conform to state and federal laws.
  • Maintain appropriate program and student documentation.
  • Direct the work of classroom paraprofessionals.
  • Provide direct and indirect services for those children who have been identified as being eligible as having an Early Childhood Developmental Delay (ECDD) or other disability that requires special education services or programming. 
  • Work with staff, parents, and/or agency consultation regarding services being provided to students with disabilities (age birth through 5) or who are being considered for a multidisciplinary assessment.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

Endorsement in both early childhood and special education or

Major or minor in early childhood growth education or child growth and development and a special education endorsement with full approval from MDE *or *

An endorsement with a designation
