*SUMMARY *

To provide the highest quality classroom instruction for students with disabilities whose needs can best be met in a structured Educational Service District classroom program. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. 

*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *

  • Provides a basic core program for students, including curriculum, lessons, and special education programming and teaching methods. Maintains attendance and evaluation records for classroom students. 
  • Prepares progress reports, Individualized Education Program (IEP) forms, classroom observation records, and other required documentation. 
  • Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, and determines goals and objectives. 
  • Exemplifies effective and research-based teaching strategies, methods, and practices that enhance the student's learning environment. 
  • Works collaboratively with fellow teachers, ancillary staff, agency personnel, and supervisors. 
  • Plans IEPs designed to meet student needs and state and federal laws. 
  • Establishes a structured classroom to ensure the safety of each student. 
  • Leads and provides direct oversight of classroom paraprofessionals 
  • Maintains professional, positive, and productive relationships with parents, teachers, and others. 
  • Refers students for observation to members of the support staff which included Speech Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, School Psychologists and School Social Workers, when appropriate and necessary. 
  • Participates in the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) evaluation, the development and implementation of IEP meetings, and committee/staff meetings held in relation to program operation. 
  • Effectively manages students' health, personal care, and safety, including health care plans.
  • Completes Medicaid and other paperwork as appropriate. 

*EDUCATION/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS *

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university. Valid Teaching certificate with special education endorsement with a CI endorsement or the ability to obtain temporary approval. Meet all of the general skill requirements found in MARSE R340.1781, in conjunction with those of R340.1782 to R340.1788, R340.1795 to R340.1797, and R340.1799 to R340.1799d, before being employed by an Intermediate
