Horizon Behavioral Health Reimbursement Administrative Assistant in Lynchburg, Virginia

Position Summary

The Reimbursement Administrative Assistant is the primary point of contact for all clients contacting Horizon's billing department. This position is responsible for assisting clients with general billing questions and routing calls as needed. The primary administrative tasks for this position include reporting collection balances to the Department of Taxation, submitting paperwork and checks to the Department of the Treasury for the State of Virginia for all unclaimed property, retrieving and distributing mail, processing all checks received from insurance companies and clients, and reconciling client payments.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma / GED
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • One year of related medical office experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Associate's degree in healthcare preferred.

Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to use MS Excel at least at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to navigate different websites to obtain information and to input information on behalf of Horizon.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical principles, methods and procedures to complete work assignments.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information obtained through the course of completing assignments (e.g., and personnel related issues, projects).
  • Knowledge of medical office practice and environment, including medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Ability to use a computer to input data, access information, and/or create materials and documents using a variety of software applications. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to record data accurately and complete documentation within established expectations and by communicated deadlines.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance, government healthcare programs, health insurance claim forms, medical documentation, and data entry. Ability to learn the varying complexities of medical billing including different types of insurance plans and government-assisted plans (Medicare, Medicaid) and local benefits.
  • Knowledge of billing procedures/policy compliance for social service departments, courts, hospitals, employers, insurance carriers, and referring agencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and consistent use of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials prepared and reviewed are complete, concise, and error-free.
  • Ability to present and express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience, whether oral or written. Actively listens to what others are saying to achieve understanding.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when making decisions in accordance with program or work unitgoals and objectives.
  • Ability to manage time to ensure multiple competing deadlines are met.
  • Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among coworkers and representatives in the community.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with the needs, problems, and/or concerns of other department staff, outside agency personnel, and/or the public.

  • Ability to show genuine sensitivity to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of other people.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work independently wi h minimal supervision.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver's license. May be required to travel to different Horizon work sites durin the day based on operational needs or provide admin support at other locations. Regular attendance at training and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
