Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: August 15, 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES: The courses taught by this faculty member would be essential to the undergraduate and graduate programs in our department and the School of Education. They include Euclidean and Non-Euclidean Geometry, Numeric, Algebraic, and Geometric Reasoning for Teaching and Learning, Pedagogical Content Knowledge and Reading in Secondary School Mathematics, Investigations in School Geometry, Problem Solving and the History of Mathematics, Number Theory Concepts in School Mathematics, Mathematical Topics and Technology for Middle School. In addition to the formal coursework, the prospective hire would be involved in out-of-classroom education, such as graduate and undergraduate honors theses, independent readings/research.

RANK & SALARY: Assistant Professor, 9-month, full-time tenure track appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics Education with the lean towards middle school/elementary education;
  • Strong potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service should be evident.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate and graduate teaching experience;
  • Evidence of research activities in the form of authored, peer-reviewed journal publications, professional conference presentations, or other scholarly activities.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Mathematics and Philosophy has 24 faculty, approximately 26 undergraduate majors, 104 minors, and 27 graduate students in Masters Programs (Mathematics and Teaching Mathematics). The department includes a Mathematics undergraduate major with four Options (Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Data Science and Statistics, Actuarial Science); as well as minors in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Middle Level Mathematics Teaching, and Philosophy.
