Job Description

Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Scientist to join our Environment Team based in Manama, Bahrain. In this role, you will assist with fieldwork, report writing and project management of multiple projects across a range of sectors, with a focus on the marine environment.

The types of project work will include, but are not limited to, the delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA, ESIA, ESHIA), Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), fieldwork and environmental monitoring.

Job Duties

  • Leads and contributes to the coordination of specific aspects of environmental assessments, including the planning, management and supervision of fieldwork, particularly marine ecological surveys.

  • Contributes to the preparation of environmental assessments, by applying both survey inputs and technical knowledge.

  • Performs work under the agreed-upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision, coordinating with other discipline-specific scientists/engineers, as required.

  • Applies technical expertise, preferably in the field of marine ecology, to a variety of projects.

  • Where required, collects and analyses information from respective discipline and interdisciplinary project leads.

  • Participates in the interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Contributes to the preparation of pre-tender documents, technical proposals and other business development materials.

  • Supports project management tasks as per AECOM’s policies expected for this level of position and applies technical knowledge and prior experience to manage small projects independently.

  • Communicates effectively both through written reports and oral discussions.

  • Works in a safe and responsible manner both in the office and in the field.

Specific Skills Required

  • Experienced in contributing to environmental assessments across a range of sectors, with emphasis on marine projects.

  • MS Office computer skills (Word, Excel, MS Project).

  • Competent in the use of GIS software (ArcGIS).

  • Highly proficient in concise, technical writing in English, with attention to detail and production of high quality deliverables.

  • Technical specialisation in marine ecology is preferred.

  • PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent SCUBA qualification is preferred.

  • Has a keen interest in the marine environment.

Experience

  • Relevant experience (ideally 3-6 years) in a consultancy environment.

  • Middle East and/or marine environmental project experience preferred.

Qualifications

BSc (Hons), and preferably MSc, in Environmental Engineering or Science, or a closely related discipline.
