The Work

This position is for a Systems Engineer to support the Mission Electronics Subsystem (MES) Program at our Manassas, VA facility. This Systems Engineer will have responsibility for supporting the lead Safety Engineer in conducting the System Safety Program that addresses both software and hardware safety throughout the program life cycle. In this role, the System Engineer will also support the broader MES Systems Engineering team.

The Systems Engineer actively participates in the Systems Safety Working Group and regularly communicates with the customer Safety representatives. The Systems Engineer must be highly proactive, working in a team environment and interfacing daily with software, hardware, and systems engineers.

The primary responsibilities include:

Supporting the software and hardware safety efforts, with a focus on identifying safety features and controls for mitigation/elimination of hazards

Performing risk assessment and mitigation for all identified safety mishaps and hazards, reporting on risk assessment and mitigation at design reviews

Developing software and hardware safety requirements, and ensuring safety requirements are verified during integration and test

Performing safety review of system interfaces, bugs, problem reports, deviations/waivers

Completing System Safety hazard analyses, clearly documenting all results for delivery

Basic Qualifications:

• Involvement in detailed software and hardware design/development programs

• History of requirements management spanning definition, decomposition, and verification

• Customer interfacing skills to deliver appropriate messages and work through issue resolution

• Experience with Systems Engineering processes in all phases of the development lifecycle

• Experience with an Agile development environment

• Qualified candidate must be able to obtain a DoD Final Secret Security Clearance prior to starting this position. This requires US Citizenship.

Desired Skills:

• Skill in System-of-Systems thinking and evaluation

• Familiarity with MIL-STD-882 or similar Safety standards

• Experience in performing Safety Hazard Analyses and Safety requirement testing/verification

• Experience supporting customer working groups and presenting at program reviews

• Passion for extending Systems Engineering skills into the System Safety domain

• US Navy Undersea Warfare experience, including sonar and sensors

• Experience with system diagrams and modeling, including CAMEO/Magic Draw

Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
