Nextern, Inc. Accounting Manager in Maple Grove, Minnesota

SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager plays a key role in maintaining accurate, complete, and timely financial records to ensure compliance with US GAAP. As part of our dynamic team, you will collaborate cross-functionally to tackle important challenges and contribute valuable insights for improvement. Reporting to the Global Controller, you will provide guidance and supervision to the accounting staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and guide the US accounting team in various areas including general ledger accounting, invoicing, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and financial close.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across all levels and functions within the global organization.

  • Ensure adherence to company accounting policies, procedures, and industry standards.

  • Mentor, develop, and manage a high-performing accounting team to foster a positive work environment.

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of general ledger account reconciliations in line with policy.

  • Ensure all journal entries are appropriately supported and approved.

  • Facilitate a timely and consistent financial close, driving process improvements based on feedback and insights.

  • Evaluate accounting and internal control systems, recommending enhancements to mitigate risks.

  • Provide support and guidance for the preparation of annual audit and tax schedules.

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive system of accounting policies and procedures.

  • Continuously enhance the automation of accounting and reporting processes by leveraging department and business feedback, work experience, and industry best practices.

  • Lead special projects that drive the growth and scalability of the company.

  • Stay updated on US GAAP requirements and support implementation of necessary changes.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively coach, develop, supervise, and mentor Accounting team members by creating and nurturing individual development plans. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide ongoing performance feedback, and encourage open communication for valuable input and suggestions.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you should meet the following qualifications:

  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a reputable four-year college or university.

  • Have at least 5 years of hands-on experience in general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and budgeting.

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience with accounting and financial reporting systems.

  • Hold a CPA certification.

  • Have in-depth knowledge of accounting procedures and principles, specifically US GAAP.

  • Demonstrate advanced level Excel skills, including pivot tables, vlookup, sumifs, etc. It is essential that you can effectively work with large volumes of data to summarize using Excel techniques.

  • Showcase critical thinking and effective problem-solving skills.

  • Possess the ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Exhibit strong and effective communication, organization, attention to detail, and follow-up skills.
