About the job

The Vaccine Drug Product Development (VDPD) team at Sanofi's Marcy l’Étoile site, near Lyon, is tasked with creating formulations and manufacturing processes for new vaccines. We invite you to join our dynamic team of approximately ten members who work closely with various platforms, including Vaccine Drug Substance Development (VDSD), Analytical Sciences, GMP teams, Lab Automation, Digital, and more.

In the role of Lab Automation Super User for Vaccines, you will serve as an automation expert, contributing to the deployment of lab automation systems and related protocols. These efforts support the development and characterization of new vaccine candidates, both liquid and freeze-dried, and their manufacturing processes.

Main responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of robots in Vaccine Drug Product Development (VDPD) and advance the lab automation platforms, including Unchained Labs CM3, TECAN, and high-throughput analytical techniques.

  • Provide support for VDPD in new vaccine initiatives and life cycle management (LCM) projects by designing experiments, assisting with design execution, and facilitating data capture.

  • Document work in electronic laboratory notebooks and generate technical reports, ensuring the ability to present findings in internal communications. Contribute to the development of digital and data-centric approaches within the Vaccine Clinical Development Sciences (VCDS).

  • Serve as the lead scientist for robotic systems, collaborating closely to integrate this technology into all new vaccine projects. Act as the point of reference for specific equipment and techniques, creating user modules and training materials for colleagues and students.

  • Engage actively in laboratory operations, including the upkeep of labs and equipment, as well as managing supplies and raw materials.

  • Drive initiatives in Health, Safety, Environment, and Sustainability (HSES) and Quality, demonstrating proactive leadership.

  • Collaborate with the VCDS IDI Digital Team to propel digital, data, and automation projects, such as iLab and ICMC DT, and engage with the VCDS Automation network.

  • Support the VDPD TOR in reestablishing the use of their CM3 equipment.

About you

  • Seasoned experience in lab automation environment for bio-pharmaceutical product development

  • Robust expertise in lab automation, robots, and data management

  • Multidisciplinary knowledge in formulation, formulation process development and physicochemical/biophysical analyses

  • Engineering, Master’s or PhD degree in Chemistry or Automation

  • Oral and written fluency in technical English, French will be an advantage
