Staff Accountant
SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing all accounts receivable and accounts payable. Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes. Organize, secure, and maintain all files, records, cash and cash equivalents in accordance with policies and procedures. Record, store, access, and/or analyze computerized financial information. Maintain accurate electronic spreadsheets for financial and accounting data. Classify, code, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals, ledgers, and/or computers. Prepare, maintain, and distribute statistical, financial, accounting, auditing, or payroll reports and tables. Complete period-end closing procedures and reports as specified. Prepare, review, reconcile, and issue bills, invoices, and account statements according to company procedures. This role assists the Controller in directing the financial activities of the hotel, safeguarding the assets, and preparing all financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and our standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties include; although are not limited to:
Overseeing day-to-day finance operations
Assisting with account collections and account aging
Handling all vendor inquiries and reconciling vendor statements
Managing all client inquiry/requests for financial information
Researching and resolving guest bill inquiries
Managing group clients from a financial standpoint from inception to completion of program
Working with hotel accounting systems including Opera, Great Plains, and Micros
Preparing and posting month-end closing entries
Producing and distributing monthly financial packets
Performing balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare, maintain, audit, and distribute statistical, financial, accounting, auditing, or payroll reports and tables
Prepare, review, reconcile, and issue bills, invoices, and account statements according to company procedures.
Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual taxes
Processing all approved invoices for payment, ensuring that all appropriate signatures and back-up are included
Prepare daily consolidated deposits of cash received by all cash handling employees.
Document, maintain, communicate, and act upon all Cash Variances. Prepare, maintain, and administer all cashier banks and contracts.
Sorting and verifying accuracy of Night Audit work, including reconciliation of banquet check extensions, coding of banquets at cost, reviewing and routing sales and promotion checks with back-up
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Previous experience in finance preferred
Previous experience with Opera preferred
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in customer service
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Strong analytical skills required
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems. Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 8 hours a day. Walking and standing are occasionally required. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. This position requires manual dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
