CITY OF MCALESTER POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: LAB TECHNICIAN

DUTIES GENERAL DESCRIPTION The essential function of the position within the organization is to ensure the City water supply is safe for drinking. PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required. Performs all tests associated with drinking water. Performs chemical examinations of untreated and treated wastewater for suspended, dissolved, and total solids. Makes bacteriological test of treated wastewater for coli form bacteria. Performs biochemical oxygen demand tests on both untreated and treated wastewater. Performs chemical tests on treated wastewater for phosphate, organic and inorganic nitrogen. Maintains records of all tests performed and keeps logs of plant operations. Records readings from meters and gauges. Takes samples of wastewater for testing. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Education Requirements refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position. Requires associates degree or the equivalent of two years of college or vocational school education. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position. Requires Class D Waste Water Operator license. Must obtain Class C Waste Water Lab within 1 year.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience Requirements refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position. Requires three years of related experience.
