Description

Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Job Responsibilities:

Obtain patient history, family history, and advanced medical directive information.

Observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

Assist physicians during treatments and examinations.

Administer medication and prescribed treatments.

Complete admissions, discharges, and promote convalescence and rehabilitation.

Function as a patient advocate.

Assess patient/family knowledge level and implement a plan of instruction.

Document all patient care using MAMC documentation standards.

Develop and manage nursing care plans.

Instruct patients and families in proper care.

Communicate pertinent patient information to charge nurse and/or physician.

Verify transcription of physician orders.

Administer medications and blood products within the scope of nursing practice.

Perform direct patient care procedures, including range of motion exercises, lifting, turning, transporting, personal hygiene care, changing linen and clothing, and feeding patients.

Manage care for patients undergoing advanced procedures with a high risk for infection and mechanically assisted bodily functions.

Ensure proper procedures are followed with the tissue/skin bank and blood bank.

Provide professional oversight for licensed practical nurses and unlicensed ancillary personnel.

Manage interpersonal relationships and maintain composure in various situations.

React with alertness and skill in emergency situations.

Assess patients for potential or life-threatening crises and initiate life-saving measures.

Participate in discharge planning and multidisciplinary patient care conferences.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Staffing and Scheduling:

Medical/Surgical RNs work Monday – Sunday and holidays, including shift work such as evening, nights, and/or days.

Thirty (30) minute lunch break and two fifteen (15) minute breaks during the shift.

Specific schedule provided one month in advance.

Alternative schedules may be implemented with mutual agreement.

Changes in the schedule coordinated between HCW and the Government with a five-day notice.

Planned absences communicated in advance to ensure no adverse effects on clinical operations.

Position Medical Technician

Position Requirements

Degree/Education:

Diploma, Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate in Nursing from a professionally approved nursing program accredited by the state accrediting agency at the time of completion.

Submission of college transcript and diploma required.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification from the American Red Cross (ARC).

Web-based classes are not accepted.

Experience:

Minimum of one year experience in the past three years in Medical Surgical nursing.

Board Certification: None

Licensure:

Possess and maintain a current, active, valid, unrestricted registered nurse license in at least one U.S. state, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction.

All licenses must remain unencumbered during employment.

Specialty Requirements:

All personnel under this contract remain employees of the Contractor.

Technical supervision is under the Chief of the Medical Surgical Department or their Government representative.

Contract nurses perform clinical duties equivalent to military or government civil service nurses.

Nurses may be rotated throughout Medical/Surgical clinical areas within their scope of practice.
