Department Summary:

We are currently seeking a Senior Principal Data Scientist for Strategic Economics to join the Cross-cutting Urgent Innovation Cell (CUIC), an organization that is unique to MITRE because: ·We are a team of analysts, scientists, innovators, and engineers focused on delivering meaningful solutions to national security challenges.  ·We concentrate on rapid prototyping, mission analysis, experimentation, and research together in a unique environment that is structured to optimize results.   ·We leverage our strong relationships with our customers and their missions to drive innovation that helps solve our nation’s biggest challenges.

Roles & Responsibilities:

A Senior Principal Data Scientist for Strategic Economics is needed who possesses expert understanding of policy, economic data and modeling, and data analytics to oversee the development and creation of new, innovative solutions for strategic economics. This role includes developing R&D proposals, mentoring and growing a technical team, executing R&D, prototyping, and integration activities, and working across U.S. Government community, including senior stakeholders, other FFRDCs and industry.

  • Help shape and inform the U.S. governments approach to strategic economics

  • Identification, evaluation, acquisition, and development of data, models, and technical approaches relevant to strategic economics

  • Collaborate with senior government officials to develop a robust understanding of sponsor requirements to create cross-cutting solutions for U.S. stakeholders across the IC, DoD, and interagency, including other FFRDCs and industry.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret clearance

  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience in one or more of the following areas: Regional/Area Studies, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science

  • Experience with working across multiple government organizations, including DoD, DoS, FFRDCs, policy makers, and/or industry

  • Experience with identifying data critical to informing decision making, and using mathematical approaches to develop and consider options for senior decision-makers

  • Experience in key areas of strategic economics, including trade, energy, export controls, investment, research security, and/or emerging technologies/science and technology

  • Program management experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multi-million-dollar budgets.

  • Record of success scoping and shaping desired end-states into technically feasible projects.

  • Experience and interest in mentoring early and mid-career data analysts and/or software engineers.

  • Experience briefing, positively influencing, and collaborating with senior government officials.

  • Experience understanding and decomposing end user needs and translating those needs into technical requirements and data architectures.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience working with multiple organizations across the US Government, including the IC and DoD.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.

  • Experience collaborating with private industry, academia, and/or non-profits on cutting-edge technology, data, and/or methodologies.

  • Experience directly advising and supporting senior U.S. government officials.

  • Experience evaluating and leveraging data, models, and tools for national security objectives.

  • Regional expertise related to China and/or Russia, including language proficiency.
