Manufacturing Lead

Nammo Defense Systems Inc., a defense contractor, manufactures and supports shoulder-fired systems; energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, medium and large caliber ammunitions, mortar ammunition; and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aero-structures.

Nammo is currently seeking to fill an opening for a Manufacturing Lead role. The ideal candidate sets the standard for safety; demonstrating constant safety awareness in all actions, suggesting, and driving continuous improvement in safety, and fostering a culture where all employees act and think safety first. The successful candidate will have the ability to take ownership of the manufacturing work cells within their designated area to ensure product is produced safely and efficiently, while maintaining Nammo’s high quality standards. Previously at Nammo, the Lead position had a wider scope, with a larger production area of responsibility. The position is being updated to narrow the scope of operations and widen the responsibilities related to the area of responsibility.

Primary Responsibilities of a Manufacturing Lead

  • Foster a culture where all employees act and think safety.

  • Set the standard for safety, demonstrating constant safety awareness in all actions, suggesting, and pushing continuous improvement in safety

  • Participate in Safety Audits

  • Perform processor duties, acting as the manufacturing subject matter expert for associated work cells.

  • Review production master schedule and assign department workers to tasks.

  • As needed, lead daily department meetings, and assign required production work.

  • Ensure workers are properly trained in accordance with company SOP's, Policies, and Work Instruction.

  • Communicate training needs and act as the liaison between Plant Operations and the Learning and Development department.

  • Assist with maintaining department training logs.

  • Conduct training or coordinate with manufacturing subject matter experts to complete training.

  • Work with Learning and Development Manger to map out development plans for teams and individuals to include development of training, delivery method, milestones, training reports, and deadlines.

  • Assist with recommendation, design, development, an implementation of innovative trainings that are in alignment with all federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Ensure production documentation is available before work begins. Complete production readiness reviews.

  • Monitor and maintain availability of tools, materials, and supplies.

  • Lead by example, wearing all required PPE and ensure department employees follow all safety procedures.

  • Setup and teardown in support of manufacturing jobs. Ensure equipment and machines are properly set up and conduct minor/routine repairs.

  • Ensure established production rates and efficiency standards are met.

  • Act as liaison with planning, maintenance, engineering, quality, IT, and purchasing departments.

  • Foster a continuous improvement culture by documenting and implementing improvement ideas.

  • Enforce company policies and procedures.

  • Monitor performance of department employees and provide Supervisor with documentation of positive and negative behaviors.

  • Verify completeness and accuracy of production travelers. Monitor open DR’s. Maintain accuracy of build records.

  • Generate maintenance work orders, as needed.

  • Troubleshoot production issues as they come up.

  • Perform time studies to document process and develop time standards.

  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Required Experience & Skills of a Manufacturing Lead

  • 5 or more years of related experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • Champion a winning culture by promoting a positive workplace, practicing psychological safety.

  • Proven experience in motivation and training of subordinates; developing skills based on the business and employee needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and exhibit a Leader presence, as an example to subordinates.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by having a growth mindset, showing the desire and motivation to learn and develop within the organization.

  • Ability to solve problems and provide input for performance reviews.

  • Ability to assist in interviewing process for new hires.

  • Willingness to receive and give feedback, in a professional manner.

  • Capacity to read and interpret procedures accurately and to provide related guidance to subordinates, as required.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and technical procedures or government regulations.

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

  • Effectively present information to peers and respond to questions from others including the management team and customers.

  • Punctuality is a must! Ability to be at work on time, and on a regular basis.

  • The ability to support management through leadership of others and provide a positive example to peers.

  • Ability to work overtime, as required.

  • Proficiency with Team Center, Nexus, CPMES, plus any additional internal information systems (or ability/ willingness to learn the required systems).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) preferred.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain ATF Processor license.
