Purpose of the Position:

The Plant Quality Manager (QM) is responsible for product and process compliance to regulatory, customer, and Corning standards. The Plant Quality Manager will provide leadership, development and coaching for the plant quality organization. As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, the QM shares accountability for overall plant performance for safety, quality, service, and continuous improvement. The QM promotes the creation of a culture of Quality throughout the plant and ensures compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • New Plant Start-Up: Works with the Project and Technology transfer teams to set up the Plant Quality team along with quality processes and protocols.

  • Post Plant Start-Up: Ensures that plant's products meet customer requirements and that the plant has an up to date and capable Quality Control system.

  • Collaborates with the Commercial group to resolve customer complaints and to translate customer requirements into meaningful product specifications.

  • Develops processes and systems to prevent quality problems.

  • Set up and manage plant quality systems (including ISO documentation, records retention, etc.) and plant quality personnel.

  • Serves as the customer advocate in the plan and responds to customer complaints and issues.

  • Collaborates with plant and technology teams to evaluate new product needs and translate them to meaningful plant specifications. Identifies and defines all required measurement protocols.

  • Works with process and product improvement teams regarding key product attributes to develop appropriate control strategies and feedback loops.

  • Continuously improves quality function spending to help the plant lower its costs.

  • Works with external vendors/suppliers to ensure consistent quality standards and protocols exist and are followed rigorously for materials, supplies and manufactured goods.

  • Aide manufacturing in the evaluation and qualification of new supplier materials.

  • Work with GSM/SCM to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and corrective actions are implemented timely.

  • Manages department spending and budgets.

  • Determines yield and/or financial impact of proposed changes in product specifications.

  • Perform process capability analysis as needed.

  • Provide statistical design and analysis services to internal plant departments.

  • Manages the analytical laboratory for the plant.

  • Oversees all customer quality audits of the plant. Leads corrective action teams to resolve audit deficiencies.

  • Work Hours • Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm) • Managing a 24/7 plant structure, occasional support when needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree Required (Preferred STEM)

  • 7+ years in a manufacturing environment

  • Able to effectively lead a diverse group of people and influence at all levels of the organization

  • Successful and proven supervisory skills in a manufacturing environment

  • Working knowledge of ISO quality standards

  • Proven ability to embrace and drive change

  • Clear dedication to excellence and advancing beyond the current state

  • Ability to allocate/supervise resources to accomplish goals (directly and indirectly)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in an assembly operation

  • Certified Black Belt in Six Sigma methodologies

  • ASQC (American Society of Quality Control) certification

  • Member of Innovation project team or new product introduction team

The range for this position is $134,306.00 - $184,671.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
