  • In the 2023 legislative session, the Governor’s Office, Minnesota legislature, and leaders for children and families worked in partnership to pass legislation establishing the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) to create a sustainable, public face for children’s issues in state government. This new cabinet-level agency brings together programs centered on children and families, including childcare and early learning, child support, child safety and permanency, economic support and food assistance, and youth opportunity. This position will transfer to DCYF.

The Early Childhood Assessment and Standards Coordinator will be part of a dynamic Early Learning Services team at the newly created Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), supporting cross-agency and inter-departmental efforts to align, support, and enhance Minnesota’s comprehensive early childhood standards and assessment system. This position will support local and statewide efforts that ensure best practices around early childhood assessment and developmental standards for children.

As the Early Childhood Assessment and Standards Coordinator, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of ongoing continuous quality improvement of the early childhood components of Minnesota’s P3 Comprehensive Early Childhood Assessment System. You will also use research and stakeholder input to recommend improvements to the early childhood components the P3 assessment system and coordinate meaningful data analysis that will inform local-level policy development regarding early childhood outcomes and developmental standards. The Early Childhood Assessment and Standards Coordinator will support local school districts in the collection and reporting of assessment data and promote assessment literacy by facilitating training. You will do this by providing technical assistance that ensures data collection and assessment training adheres to best practices for children in early childhood programs and meets the needs of early care and education professionals responsible for implementing Minnesota’s Preschool Assessment system.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

· Providing leadership in the coordination and implementation of assessment strategies across specific early learning initiatives.

· Coordinating with stakeholders to ensure children in a variety of settings are supported in the early childhood comprehensive assessment system.

· Facilitating the statewide implementation of Minnesota’s early childhood Assessment system and summarizing child outcome data.

Minimum Qualifications

· 3 years of professional experience demonstrating knowledge of child development and/or early childhood assessment OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2 years of experience.

· Experience collaborating and engaging with diverse groups.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using data to inform continuous quality improvement efforts at state or local levels

Experience working with or in early care and education programs
