Position Overview

We are adding Electrical & Instrumentation designers to our Kiewit Industrial and Water Engineering team to support a broad portfolio of projects that include FEED and EPC projects. In this role, you will be part of a large multi-disciplined team providing design support for electrical designs for water/wastewater processing facilities, chemical processing facilities, mining facilities, renewable natural gas facilities, industrial energy facilities - just to name a few! We like designers that have a couple of years in electrical and/or I&C design, both 2D and 3D modeling experience and skills in SmartPlant and Microstation or similar tools. Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

Location

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS or Minneapolis MN. Opportunities for flexible work are available and we offer relocation.

Responsibilities

  • Supports engineers with electrical designs on electrical circuits and systems, layouts of electrical equipment into building, conduit, wiring diagrams, power distribution diagrams, electrical schematics, I&C systems design and control panels.

  • Design and draft intermediate electrical drawings, in Microstation and AutoCAD, perform calculations

  • Design support for one lines, grounding, 3D cable tray design, lighting and lighting protection, heat trace, properly size cables and raceways

  • Review contract requirements to understand electrical requirements of the facility, analyze and recommend solutions for the design and resolution on field/construction issues with the design

  • Acts as a field resource to assist construction in field resolution on issues.

  • Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments with little supervision.

  • Identifies changes in the scope of work during a small project and produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.

  • Takes initiative to meet or exceed the quality and expected outcome requirements of internal and external customers.

  • Work closely with other designers and engineers to bring innovative, cost-effective solutions for our projects.

  • Ensure designs comply with company standards, building and installation codes, regulatory requirements to produce quality deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree with 5 years of related design experience as outlined above; or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 9 years of related design experience.

  • Experience with design/drafting tools such as 2D/3D AutoCAD or Microstation.

  • Experience with building/facilities design, with knowledge of electrical building codes and standards (NEC, ANSI/IEEE for example)

  • Experience with raceway design and equipment layout required

  • Must have Experience with SmartPlant 3D design tools or similar tools.

  • Develops and presents work in well-constructed written and verbal presentations. Clearly conveys messages and ideas, gains understanding.

  • Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems. Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines or internal customers for clarity on work.

  • Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with other to accomplish common goals and objectives

  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines.

  • Able to specify actions to take when standards or contract requirements are not met.
