Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer, Casual in Minneapolis, Minnesota
SUMMARY
Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer in our OB Testing Diagnostic Lab. This casual position will pick up day shifts.
Performs specialized obstetric and gynecologic diagnostic ultrasound scanning procedures. Takes anatomical images to demonstrate normal and abnormal fetal anatomy and gynecologic anatomy including abnormalities. Reports preliminary findings to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist. Participates in the education of healthcare providers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs high-risk obstetric ultrasounds working with Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists including: first trimester ultrasounds, detailed first-trimester fetal anatomy assessment, comprehensive fetal anatomy assessments in the second and third trimesters, transvaginal ultrasounds to assess maternal and fetal anatomy, maternal and fetal doppler studies (including umbilical dopplers and middle cerebral artery dopplers), antenatal fetal surveillance, 3D and 4D imaging
- Ultrasounds on patients with high BMI in pregnancy, multifetal gestations, nuchal translucency and nasal bone assessment, and cervical length assessments are within the scope of this sonographer
- Uses accurate clinical judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to accurately identify, record, and adapt imaging studies and antenatal surveillance as appropriate based on anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images
- Analyses obtained images and synthesizes sonographic information and clinical history and communicates findings to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician and other members of the care team including Registered Nurses and Genetic Counselors
- Assists Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic fetal procedures including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, fetal fluid drainage, fetal injections, fetal blood sampling and transfusion
- Assumes responsibility for the safety as well as the mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer’s care
- Educates, assists, and communicates effectively with patients and their families regarding procedures and/or treatments to be performed in difficult and anxious settings and provides emotionally supportive and culturally appropriate care
- Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department including maintenance and cleaning/sterilization of ultrasound equipment
- Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance
- Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department with participation in monitoring and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of services
- Establishes and maintains ethical and professional working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospital, referral, or commercial agenciesThis includes maintaining the confidentiality of all work information
- Coordinate with other staff both in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine unit and referring providers to ensure appropriate and patient-centered care is provided
- Provides ultrasound skill training for ultrasound technologist students, Medical Students, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Radiology Residents, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellows
- Coordinates work schedule with departmental Supervisor and/or scheduling desk to ensure workload coverage
- Maintains practice standards as outlined in the American Society of Radiologic Technicians (ASRT): The Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy – Sonography Practice Standards
- Maintains practice standards as outlined in The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) accreditation
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in ultrasound technology and a graduate of an accredited School of Ultrasound Technology by CAAHEP
- Certification or Certification-Eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). If “eligible”, employee must be certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology within one year of hire
- Maintains minimum CE credits as mandated by the accrediting body ARDMS
- Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 4 months of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of obstetric ultrasound experience
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification in Fetal Echocardiography
- Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone Education and/or certification
- CLEAR Certification for cervical length assessment
