This position will seek to provide intervention for individuals with various social service needs, including but not limited to mental health, substance use, and medical concerns, who have come into contact with emergency services, such as law enforcement and university security. This position will work closely with partners through the University of Minnesota and will provide community outreach, engagement, and resources through temporary support with a culturally sensitive, recovery based, person-centered, co-response model to ideally reduce the need for 911 calls or additional police involvement. Location and Hours: This position will be based out of the University of Minnesota Police Department (505 Washington Ave SE Minneapolis, MN 55455), with the ability to work remotely if/as needed. The primary work schedule will be Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm, with occasional evening, night, and weekend hours as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Counseling 90% * Provide outreach to individuals referred for services in various modalities, such as phone or face-to-face meetings. * Work with individuals to develop unique interventions, goals, and plans related to areas of social service need. * Make referrals, offer resources, and assist with connecting individuals to community providers. * Assist individuals with completing needed assessments, applications for services, and documentation to meet eligibility requirements for services. * Provide real time co-response for active calls for service. * Complete needs and risk assessments, case consultation, and safety planning/crisis referrals. * Document referrals received, paperwork completed, and case notes in the supported documentation system in a timely and professional manner. * Adhere to data privacy rules and regulations, obtain releases of information as needed, and maintain confidentiality. * Provide education and resources/guidance for law enforcement staff related to mental health, chemical dependency, and other relevant topics. Outreach/Admin 10% * Build collaborative and working relationships with all members of the department, the University of Minnesota community, and community providers. * Participate in community engagement events and activities, roll calls, meetings, and ride-a-longs. * Partner with the University of Minnesota's Behavioral Consultation Team, CARE Team, and other University departments/faculty members to provide ongoing care and support for referrals. * Perform other related functions Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * BA/BS degree plus at least six years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least four years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least one year of experience. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) licensure is required. * Valid driver's license. * Ability to pass a background check. Preferred Qualifications: * Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Sociology, or Human Services. * In process of working towards professional licensure or licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). * Six or more years working as a full time supervised social worker. * One or more years of experience working in a university setting. * One or more years of experience working within a police department. Required Knowledge and Abilities: * Demonstrate ability to navigate within a university setting. * Display strong interpersonal, computer, and organizational skills. * Demonstrate flexibility, afety, sensitivity, independence, and critical thinking skills in dynamic settings. * Ability to adapt to a variety of surroundings and conditions. * Effectively work on a multidisciplinary team and ability to demonstrate collaboration with providers, community partners, and coworkers. * Required knowledge of and experience with crisis intervention and triage, conflict management, and de-escalation strategies. * Required experience working with various populations, such as SPMI (serious and persistent mental illness), substance use disorders, and unhoused individuals. * Demonstrate collaboration and coordination with law enforcement and ability to navigate working within the criminal justice system. * Required knowledge of and experience with working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures. * Required knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles. * Required knowledge and navigation of the court system. * Specifically working with civil commitment (Mentally Ill, Mentally Ill and Chemically Dependent, Mentally Ill and Dangerous), ability to testify in hearings and completion of court documentation as required.
