Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Registered Nurse - Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior RN Program Coordinator in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Summary The primary duties of the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) Registered Nurse (RN) Program Coordinator is to manage all aspects of the PMDB program and to provide PMDB training at the MVAHCS and the thirteen Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). The PMDB Program Coordinator trains staff to identify disruptive situations, recognize the signs that a disruptive situation could escalate into a violent situation & intervene to reduce risk of injuries to self and others. Responsibilities The PMDB Program Coordinator serves as a PMDB Facility Trainer and is primarily responsible for teaching all parts of the PMDB core curriculum for the MVAHCS, held on a regularly scheduled weekly basis. The PMDB Program Coordinator functions as a formal and informal educator; serving as a liaison between internal and external customers, supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. They influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. The PMDB Program Coordinator will be expected to travel to all facilities/sites within the MVAHCS catchment area to provide training, which will require obtaining and maintaining approvals for government vehicle usage. A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position. Major Duties Include but are not limited to: Implements and complies with local and National directives and policies governing the PMDB and WVPP Programs. Performs work in the development, implementation, and tracking compliance for the PMDB Program. Participates substantially in coursework development or modification and develops complete course in well-established areas of a subject matter field. Develop or adapt new or revised training or materials for formal/informal course use. Develops training programs based on adult learning principles and teaching methods. Performs work involving modification (change/updates) to course material and plans for specific audiences and teaching methods. Produces complete, self-containing training products ( courses, aids, methods, training plans, etc.) as required. Coordinate all training needs and activities associated with the PMDB Program and consults with the WVPP and Senior Leadership on policy, program implementation and compliance status. Trains clinical teams who respond to disruptive behavior for each unit identified by the facility as at high risk for disruptive or violent incidents (high risk units), this includes certification in the use of PMDB therapeutic containment. Assists clinical teams in maintaining compliance by collaborating with unit leadership to facilitate required drills, just in time training, and refresher training to mitigate risk for low volume high risk actions. Recruit, train and schedule PMDB Facility Trainers. Ensure PDMB Facility trainers obtain and maintain ongoing certification. Document and track levels each PDMB trainer is certified to teach and ensure that each trainer teaches enough classes to maintain certification. Obtain and maintain record of locally and nationally required documentation for all PMDB Facility Trainers. Educate staff in recognizing signs and factors of potential danger, strategies for de-escalation, and identifying resources that can directly address individual needs to help improve the quality of Veteran care and reduce overall risk. Collaborates with the WVPP Manager regarding disruptive individuals in the workplace, behavioral risk and threat management recommendations, and strategies to promote a culture of safety in MV AHCS. Serves as a local TMS administrator to manage ongoing and continuous data-recording and analysis tasks. Functions as an Administrator of the Disruptive Behavior Reporting System (DBRS) to assist the WVPP Manager with maintaining data, access, and administrative functions of the DBRS. Demonstrates leadership in the completion of the annual Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment. The PMDB Program Coordinator will be expected to travel to all facilities/sites within the MVAHCS catchment area to provide training Work Schedule: Monday -Friday, Days. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.) NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.
