Description

Robert Half is seeking a Construction Accountant for an established Real Estate firm, who will play a crucial role in managing the financial and administrative aspects of construction projects, ensuring compliance with prevailing wage laws, and handling AIA billing processes. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in construction accounting, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. This position will be available on a contract-to-hire basis and may require some travel within the Northern, NJ area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management:

  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports for construction projects.

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing.

  • Reconcile bank statements and maintain general ledger accounts.

  • Prevailing Wage Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws and regulations.

  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports.

  • Monitor and enforce prevailing wage requirements on all applicable projects.

  • AIA Billing:

  • Prepare and submit AIA (American Institute of Architects) billing documents.

  • Track and manage project costs and progress billing.

  • Coordinate with project managers and clients to resolve billing discrepancies.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets and forecasts.

  • Monitor project budgets and provide variance analysis.

  • Work with project managers to ensure financial goals are met.

  • Audit and Compliance:

  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and accounting standards.

  • Stay updated on industry regulations and changes in prevailing wage laws.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and other team members to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Communicate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, and clients regarding financial matters.

  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to management for decision-making.

  • Administrative Functions

  • Provide high-level, professional office assistance and customer service to internal and external constituent groups, including but not limited to: answering telephones, taking accurate messages, filing, making copies, meeting and room scheduling.

  • Provide administrative and clerical support in the preparation of project-related correspondence, technical specifications, agendas, minutes, and reports.

  • Establish and maintain project files, databases, and other records.

  • Prepare correspondence for submission to State and Federal regulatory agencies.

  • Schedule and coordinate regulatory inspections, project meetings, pre-proposal conferences, interviews, bid openings, etc.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting.

  • Proficiency in prevailing wage compliance and certified payroll reporting.

  • Strong knowledge of AIA billing processes and documentation.

  • Experience working with a construction firm or related construction industry experience strongly preferred.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
