CAE USA INC Project Owner - Defense and Security in Montreal (St. Laurent), Canada

About This Role

As a Project Owner (PO) within the Defence and Security International Systems & Software Engineering Center (SSWEC) team at CAE, you will be managing the project backlog for a specific project or projects within the International Defence and Security portfolio. The Project Owner will collaborate with System and Software Architects, System Engineers, Military Training Experts, Product and Technology owners across the Global Product and Technology organization to set the vision and ensure that the desired functionalities and features that are been delivered to the customer are well understood, properly scoped within budget constraints, and meet the training requirements.

The role we are offering you:

  • Participates in the project scope definition with the System Architects and Technical Leadership teams to ensure that the proposed technical solution is the optimal one for the project and that it fits within the budget constraints and meets the project requirements.

  • Accountable for a single unified backlog for a Global SW Engineering project in JIRA.

  • Creates the feature-based work breakdown structure for the project and corresponding release plan to align the SW Engineering groups so that the entire scope of work is captured.

  • Assesses value, develops cases, writes, and prioritizes user stories, epics, and themes to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with project strategy.

  • Ensures that the SW Eng team properly understands the scope of work that will be delivered.

  • Maintains the backlog to continuously align technical solution with the project scope.

  • Builds the cross-departmental feature-based release plan. Is responsible to set feature demos in the labs and on devices and has the final approval to closeout each feature and release as per the definition of done. Provides a features roadmap to the project including dependencies management.

  • Work closely with the Scrum Master to ensure the delivery team delivers the features in the Release Plan on time and budget.

  • Manages the Change Control Board (CCB) by understanding the scope, identifies impact of changes and configuration management of approved changes. When there is a potential change in scope the PO is responsible to find a solution with the technical team that meets the technical requirements and ensures that this solution does not impact the training requirements. The PO is responsible to present the business case for the prescribed solutions to the Chief of Engineering so that the change can be presented to customer.

  • Understands the project requirements and training needs. Provides guidance to all stakeholders during the design and execution phase to ensure the optimal Engineering Solution is in place to meet the training requirements.

  • Collaborates closely with Product Management on the product vision and strategy to create and maintain a project backlog according to business value or ROI.

  • Maintains and prioritizes the team backlog.

  • Leads the team backlog refinement, iteration planning (with support of the Scrum Master), and elaboration of user stories.

  • Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals.

  • Manages technical discussions with technical leads to align the development, integration, and testing activities.

  • Identifies and mitigates technical and project risks.

  • Be a change agent & Agile mindset promoter.

  • Contribute to a collaborative and stimulating work environment.

  • Follows Agile principles and methodologies.

    Our ideal candidate has:

  • University Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Computer Science.

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience as Agile Product Owner, System Software Developer.

  • Software development and technical experience is a strong asset.

  • Knowledge of simulation systems and the aerospace industry is an asset.

  • Bilingualism (French and English) required.

  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams within a matrix organization.

  • Passion for understanding complex requirements and finding innovative technical solutions.

  • A strong understanding of agile principles and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Proficiency in JIRA

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
