rrPosition Summary:
rThis position is responsible for all operations at the Palouse Research, Extension and Education Center (PREEC) Beef Unit. The individual is ultimately responsible for all animal care at the beef unit. This position is also responsible for supervising, training, evaluating and setting schedules for board appointed and temporary employees at the beef unit. The individual ensures current SOP protocols are updated and adhered to for all operation tasks and manages the Beef Unit budget and expenditures, ensuring expenditures are appropriate and accurate. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a year end balanced budget for the beef unit. This individual will occasionally be asked to provide management relief at the UI Dairy, Feed and Sheep Units and assist with other PREEC activities.
rrMinimum Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree in Animal Science or Agricultural Business; four additional years of experience (for a total of four years) may substitute for a Bachelors Degree
{=html} <!-- --> - Experience with maintenance and operation of livestock production equipment - Experience with computerized recordkeeping and research principles - Experience maintaining accurate records and managing budgets - Experience handling large animals - Experience supervising and training others - Experience with safety practices necessary in handling animals, farm equipment and vehicles - Experience in operation of a skid-steer loader, tractors and loading and towing of livestock trailers
rrPreferred Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in Animal Science or closely related field
- Experience and interest in research involving aspects of beef management, health, reproduction and nutrition
- Working knowledge of sanitation procedures necessary in livestock care
- Experience fitting and showing livestock
rrPhysical Requirements & Working Conditions:

- Ability to work with toxic, volatile and corrosive chemicals or carcinogenic substances
- Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions
- Must be able to lift, carry or otherwise move at least 50 pounds
