rrPosition Summary:

rOrganizes and directs the daily activities of the shared services/core research facility. Responsible for supervising facility personnel, conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results. Serves as liaison to internal and external stakeholders and presents research findings to the general public.

Duties may include:

  • Providing consulting services to department management, public and private sector entities
  • Providing final review of regulations, policies and procedures and recommending changes based on prevailing scientific evidence
  • Supervising scientific/technical staff
  • Directing and/or planning and implementing a component of the scientific program
  • Directing and/or developing and monitoring research projects in conjunction with other agencies
  • Directing and/or preparing reports assessing use, distribution, fate, exposure, and probability of adverse effects of chemicals and/or radiological constituents or other hazardous substances in specific use situations
  • Directing and/or developing and /or providing final detailed review of risk assessments and making recommendations for improvement where risk level is unacceptable
  • Establishing work priorities and performance standards, hiring, training, evaluating staff, assigning, and reviewing work
  • Making managerial decisions that directly affect the efficiency, cost, reputation and service quality of the department, program, or process
  • Reviewing statistical studies, technological advances, or regulatory standards and trends to stay abreast of issues in the field of quality control
  • Developing complex budgets, distributing budgeted funds, and exercising primary control
  • Preparing information and assessments of client and stakeholder concerns
  • Presiding and/or presenting information at public meetings or educational forums
  • Developing liaison and working relationships with governmental agencies and industries
  • Other duties as assigned

rrMinimum Qualifications:

r

  • Masters degree in nutrition, biochemistry, food science, chemistry, medical sciences, biology, physiology, animal science, dairy science, or veterinary science; a bachelors degree in nutrition, biochemistry, food science, chemistry, medical sciences, biology, physiology, animal science, dairy science, or veterinary science plus 2 additional years of post-degree research experience (4 total) including at least one year of technical/administrative experience in laboratory or field research site operations may be substituted

rrPreferred Qualifications:

r

  • Doctorate degree in nutrition, food science, chemistry, biology, physiology, animal science, dairy science, veterinary science, or closely related scientific degree
  • Advanced training and experience in molecular biology protocols, microbiology, gas chromatography, and/or analysis of micronutrients and macronutrients
  • Knowledge about and experience conducting controlled experiments
  • Experience conducting human studies
  • Experience conducting animal studies
  • Basic competence in statistical approaches
  • Experience writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications
    • Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Evidence of strong work ethic
    • Competency using computers and analytical equipment
    • Ability to manage data to the final report form, either abstract or manuscript
