Position Information

Job Title Student Assistant - College of Fine Arts - Turner Crew

General Description

This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and production of fine arts events for the College of Fine Arts. The position may be responsible for assisting in a variety of production functions including, but not limited to, scenic, costume, sound and lighting operations, event load in and strike, live event management and general stage maintenance, or any combination. Some job functions may require varying levels of physical exertion. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Job Duties

  1. Provides assistance in the production of fine arts events in assigned functional area(s).

  2. If working in the shop, assists in shop maintenance and storage including, equipment, supplies and facilities.

  3. May assist in the construction of scenic elements of a production using hand and power tools with wood and metal.

  4. May assist in costuming for a production, including sewing, ironing and making alterations.

  5. May install and setup sound and lighting equipment and operate equipment during productions.

  6. May assist in load in (setup) and strike (take down) of various elements of a production.

7.May drive a University vehicle

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  2. Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  3. Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.

  4. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  5. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of assigned duties.

    Required Qualifications

Must be an enrolled student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided. Some functional areas may require previous experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in live event production.

Physical Demands

  1. Ability to lift, move and carry objects with and without assistance.

    Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
