Craven County Government Community Health Assistant - Maternity (10074) in New Bern, North Carolina

Primary Purpose

Responsible for the initial clinic procedures, such as vital signs, EDC dates, collection of specimens, and preparation of lab orders. Record information properly in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Serve as back up to the Maternity Processing Assistant.

Essential Functions
  • Perform weight and height, blood pressure, and estimate due date by last monthly period.

  • Document information accurately in the EMR.

  • Instruct patient on procedure to obtain a clean catch urine sample.

  • Label all GC/Chlamydia, wet prep, and pap specimens.

  • Prepare and deliver in-house labs needed.

  • Wash and clean speculums and prepare for autoclaving.

  • Maintain a log of outpatient labs (QHCG, thyroid,etc) obtained to ensure results are received.

  • Order labs in computersystem.

  • Prepare charts for the next days appointments.

  • Maintain a list of specimens sent to the state lab.

  • Monitor the label machine for incoming patients.

  • Pick up lab reports for health care providers asrequested.

  • Assistas needed with clinic procedure.

  • Order supplies in the unit andsubmitlist for ordering.

  • Organize supplies in closet to ensure rotation of use andexpirationdate.

  • Check supplies in examination rooms for amount,expirationdate, and sterilization.

  • Assistin the washing and preparing of instruments. Take instruments to lab for sterilization.

  • Keep work area clean and orderly.

  • Serve on the maternity Audit team.

  • Assistpatients as needed.

  • Otherjob-relatedduties as assigned by supervisor and/or management.

  • In the event of a disaster, may be required to assist as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

Working knowledge of basic medical procedures and processes; basic knowledge of the social, economic, and environmental conditions of clients to be served; ability to obtain, record, and report vitals, lab results, etc. accurately; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to perform required physical tasks; knowledge and ability to use EMR system appropriately.

Demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills, and abilities through at least one year of experience in performing similar tasks in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, medical corps, or other medical treatment program.
