Registered Nurse Diabetes Educator

Exciting Opportunity at MSK

We are seeking a Registered Nurse Diabetes Educator to participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and assumes responsibility for diabetes-focused nursing professional development. You will serve as an active member of the interprofessional team to provide therapeutic patient and caregiver centered care. In this role, you will provide education to individuals and caregivers on a wide variety of topics with an emphasis on diabetes education. The Educator systematically and continuously collects and assesses data related to patient health status to develop, execute, and evaluate the plan of care. In addition, you will utilize evidence to drive clinical decisions and practice related to individual and population health while establishing goals and strategies for meeting care coordination needs across settings with the patient, family, and/or other care providers.

Role Overview:

  • Educates patients and caregivers on diabetes self-management skills & lifestyle changes to improve glycemic control, including nutrition, medication, physical activity, and glucose testing.

  • Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition.

  • Work independently within their scope of practice to achieve clinical outcomes.

  • Provides patient care and education that is safe, ethical, patient- and caregiver-centered, culturally congruent, and evidence-based.

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for effectively managing nursing care of individual patients.

    Key Qualifications:

  • NYS RN License

  • Master’s degree in nursing education preferred / other nursing-related masters considered.

  • 5 years of recent and relevant clinical experience with proven leadership abilities, demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and use of educational teaching methodologies.

  • Specialty certification required.

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS instructor preferred.

  • Certification by the National Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE) as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) required or must be obtained within the first 2 years of employment.

  • Ability to use various educational tools and resources to enhance learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively convey medical information to patients in a clear, understandable manner tailored to their individual needs.

  • Location: 1275 York Avenue, NYC

  • Reporting to The Nurse Leader Nursing Professional Development

  • Schedule : Onsite 4/10hrs

    Pay Range: $118,800 - $196,200
