The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Barnhart Lab conducts research to define the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neuronal homeostasis. It is an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment committed to promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion in science.

The Research Staff Assistant will report to the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will use Drosophila genetics, in vivo microscopy, and quantitative image analysis to study mitochondrial homeostasis in neurons in vivo.

This is a 1-year, full-time, grant-funded position with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and generates Drosophila stocks, including making Drosophila food.
  • Assists in dissections, staining, and imaging adult Drosophila brains by confocal microscopy.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance, including ordering and receiving reagents, making lab stock solutions (e.g. sugar salt saline for in vivo imaging of Drosophila), and managing chemical inventory and safety records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required in a scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of six months of experience in a research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA or BS in cell biology or neuroscience.
  • Experience in an academic research setting.
  • Experience working with general computers.
