Public Buildings Service Vertical Transportation Specialist in New York, New York

Summary As a Vertical Transportation Specialist you will ensure the region has an accurate and complete VT inspection program, review project related documents and inspect work (repair and modernization) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards. Location of position: General Services Administration, Public Building Service (PBS), Building Operations Program at One World Trade Center, New York, NY. We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed. Responsibilities Evaluates regional inventory of elevators and escalators and makes recommendations to correct malfunctions, improve safety, and overall reliability. Participates in asset business planning for funding of Vertical Transportation (VT) projects to establish priorities. Ensures the region has an accurate and complete VT inspection program. Performs ASME A17.1 QEI-1 certified inspections. Reviews and approves third-party maintenance and/or equipment condition surveys. Evaluates the accuracy of service being provided by VT maintenance vendors to make recommendations as needed. Partner with regional stakeholders to review quality of work such as maintenance services, repairs, and modernizations. Perform reviews of specifications and drawings related to VT projects to create estimates and/or assist regional stakeholders when performing evaluations. May be required to participate in the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), which includes attending meetings and planning activities; and carrying out mission-critical work at a designated location other than your primary work site (which may be outside of your commuting area). If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is evaluating elevators, escalators and other Vertical Transportation Equipment to verify compliance with safety, maintenance, and code requirements; conveying maintenance, construction, code, and contract deficiencies to managers, mechanics and contractors; providing technical advice and developing specifications and/or estimates for the design and construction of elevators in new buildings, as well as for repair, alteration, modernization projects on existing facilities. Education Education may not be substituted for experience for this position.
