Choice Hotels Public Relations Senior Coordinator (Hybrid) in North Bethesda, Maryland

The External Communications Team builds awareness for Choice’s collection of hotel brands and cross-functional, enterprise-wide initiatives and business priorities with consumers, franchisees, the development community, and other critical audiences. As a key member of our External Communications Team, you will assist with daily tasks and support a variety of projects to help share the Choice Hotels story.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day public relations activity for select brands and corporate initiatives by liaising with internal and external partners.

  • Build and maintain relationships with a variety of consumer and trade media by conducting proactive and reactive media outreach.

  • Proactively share potential story angles as well as partnership and activation ideas to help garner media coverage about Choice Hotels in target media outlets.

  • Manage Media Relations inbox, fielding inquiries and fulfilling requests.

  • Coordinate and staff interviews with Choice executives, key stakeholders, and members of the media as needed.

  • Coordinate and support logistics and media strategy for Choice's annual franchisee convention.

  • Maintain PR calendar, media lists, as well as other communications documents.

  • Provide editorial support, leading the drafting and fact checking of PR collateral, including but not limited to press releases, media advisories, briefing books, bios, fact sheets, key messages, quotes, FAQs, and written interviews.

  • Oversee deadlines and key deliverables, as well as quality control and editorial review of content.

  • Oversee the monitoring of media coverage as well as the drafting and distribution of daily clips and weekly reports.

  • Oversee the public relations website including keeping the content current.

  • Assist with budget management, vendor management, and invoice processing for the department.

  • Help implement departmental operational policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Attend and staff publicity events and conferences as needed.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree marketing, communications, journalism, marketing or equivalent experience.

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a public relations or marketing communications environment.

  • Experience in corporate and/or a PR agency setting is a plus.

  • Ability to project manage, multi-task, and juggle multiple demands and quickly shifting priorities.

  • Strong communications skills (verbal and non-verbal skills, correspondence, writing and editorial ability). Familiarity with Associated Press style.

  • Solid organizational skills including excellent follow-through and attention to detail.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to manage diverse relationships across various departments and levels of the organizations, as well as external stakeholders.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with Cision/PR Newswire and Muck Rack a plus.

  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated, with the ability to lead projects proactively.

  • Strong customer service orientation and an overall curiosity about and passion for improvement.

  • Ability to travel to events as needed.

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Senior Manager, Public Relations. You will have 1 peer teammate and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

As our Public Relations Senior Coordinator, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Right now, our associates in corporate headquarters are working in a hybrid environment, up to 4 days per week in the office and virtually from your home office the remaining days. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.
