Job Description
Overview:
Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Marketing, The Director, Content Strategy, sets the strategic direction and creative vision for impactful, high-quality multi-media content that enhances and protects AbbVie’s reputation and accelerates business objectives. Working closely with key partners across Corporate Marketing, Corporate Communications, Brand Communications, Corporate Responsibility and Global Philanthropy, Human Resources, Government Affairs and other functional teams, this position provides strategic counsel for functional content plans, while also owning the development of content plans, including campaigns, for the enterprise. An exceptional creative content leader/producer and content strategist, the Director is able to lead and create content strategies and activations across channels and formats and deliver against clear marketing and communications objectives.
Primary Job Function:
Lead the development of a high performing team of multi-media content communicators that delivers best-in-class content that is relevant, compelling and timely across multi-faceted channels and formats
Serve on the Corporate Marketing Leadership team and act as a strategic partner to corporate brand, social media, web and integrated planning leads
Align, support, coach and partner with enterprise communicators to ensure consistent tone of AbbVie’s voice and integrated communications to effectively tell the AbbVie story and support business objectives
Develop and socialize content strategy plans, recommendations, thought leadership and rationale to colleagues in Corporate Affairs and other functions
Lead strategic planning for content team, including launching an editorial calendar as an output of the planning process
Lead the development of original content in a variety of formats, from web content and articles to social content, infographics, videos, and more
Lead team to develop ideas for new content activations and new channels based on a deep understanding of trends, audience insights and the external environment
Collaborate closely with other functional teams to map and optimize content for each audience, while leveraging measurement and analytics to test and learn and ultimately improve efforts
Develop content strategies in partnership with media relations teams, helping support media relations goals
Provide input and recommendations on paid media strategy, including audience targeting, channels, and formats, working in partnership with media team and agencies to ensure advertising efforts are strategic and achieve goals
Lead and direct agency partners from briefing through creative development to ensure content is impactful, effective and delivers the right brand image for AbbVie
Lead the development of content standards, processes, and tools to drive greater efficiencies in how the team works and operates as a cross-functional team
Stay on top of content marketing trends and bring new ideas for the team to explore and test
Qualifications
Qualifications:
10-15 years of content development experience, preferably in healthcare, B2B or regulated industry (either client or agency based)
Minimum of 5 years in leadership role, managing a team of content producers
Minimum of 3 years of digital marketing experience
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Integrated Marketing or equivalent
Strong business acumen; experience in healthcare/bio-pharma a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with curiosity and knowledge of emerging communications and creative trends, platforms
Strong portfolio of published work that demonstrates exceptional content skills and ability to translate complex topics into simple, digestible content
A thinker and a doer mindset—excited about driving strategy while simultaneously rolling up sleeves to concept, develop and edit content in a variety of formats
Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Collaborative team leader and player with great interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
Ability to deliver feedback thoughtfully and receive it gracefully
Strong project management skills and attention to detail

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

Salary: $156,000 - $296,500
