Native American Health Center Medical Assistant (MA) in Oakland, California

**POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant I (MA) is a key member of the medical care team who assists clinicians with providing high quality primary care. The MA assists in managing patient panels, daily flow and executes standing orders. All duties are to be performed according to organizational and departmental policy and protocol. The Native American Health Center is an accredited institution and adheres to the standards of excellence set forth by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).

**DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

**Primary MA Responsibilities 1. In coordination with Care Team, lead daily huddles reviewing the days scheduled members. 2. Prepare exam room for member visits and procedures. Keep exam room stocked and free from expired products. 3. Admit members, conduct an initial interview, vitalize and follow departmental workflows based on visit type. Assist with procedures and in providing health education, as appropriate and as directed. 4. Perform approved standing orders. 5. Perform blood tests, EKG's, visual acuity, urine and hearing tests and phlebotomy, as indicated. Administer injections to pediatric and adult members. Ensure information is current in Immunization Registry.

  1. Act as Panel Manager MA or Float when assigned. Provide break coverage to other MAs, when directed.
  2. Open and close lab and execute Periodic Tasks, when assigned.
  3. Assist in training incoming and incumbent Medical Assistants.

*Panel Management MA Responsibilities, *when assigned 9. Participate in daily huddles and other scheduled meetings. 10. Conduct Reminder Calls for upcoming appointments. 11. Follow standardized workflows to prepare for upcoming visits; conduct pre-visit workflows. 12. Maintain timely communication with members, including via member portal, other third party software (i.e., texting applications, etc.) and over the phone. 13. Call No Show appointments to reschedule. 14. Conduct outreach to newly assigned members and in-reach to already assigned members 15. Perform panel management activities, when not actively performing MA I duties

**General Duties and Responsibilities 16. Provide interpretation, as directed. 17. Participate in meetings and trainings. 18. Work Saturday and evening clinics, when assigned. 19. Member Care: Demonstrate understanding and apply working knowledge of safety policies and ensuring safe member practices. 20. Employee Safety: Safely performs all duties; follows required protective protocols to ensure personal safety as well the safety of others. 21. Must maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; be mindful of posture and regularly practice ergonomic stretches. 22. Quality Improvement: Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned. 23.
