Catholic Community Services Lead Resident Coordinator in Olympia, Washington

Overview

$22.17-$25.50

Drexel House, a 86 unit low-income housing tax credit program and 16 bed emergency shelter that employs the Housing First model for chronically homeless and disabled adults. The program will have 24-hour monitoring staff on-site supervised by the Program Supervisor as well as multiple housing stability case managers that will specifically provide supportive services to all residents and clients. The program utilizes Section 8 Project Based Vouchers from the Housing Authority of Thurston County (HATC) and Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC).This position partners with supportive service case managers and maintenance staff while ensuring resident satisfaction.

The Lead Resident Coordinator will have access to all buildings and will provide on-site monitoring for all residents/clients. The Lead Resident Coordinator will direct the residents/clients to the proper individuals to address concerns. The individual in this position will be responsible for facility upkeep including light janitorial and cleaning duties (mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, sanitizing surfaces). This position is supported by and answers directly to the Housing Manager

Responsibilities

Resident Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Staff the front desk to include answering the phone, authorizing access to clients and guests, and monitoring the security of both buildings.

  • Monitor and enforce the program policies with residents, clients, and visitors.

  • Conduct safety & perimeter checks of all entrances, exits, and the entire property grounds.

  • Maintain facility upkeep by the laundering of sheets, towels, pillowcases and blankets for the emergency shelter.

  • Inform appropriate personnel of problems with operation of appliances, plumbing, heating and electrical systems to ensure site remains safe and operational.

  • Maintain order and communicate/enforce rules and policies.

  • Log in /out residents, client and visitors.

  • Maintain nightly bed list for the emergency shelter.

  • Record significant occurrences in logbook in a professional manner.

  • Initiate and model respectful interactions with residents.

  • Assist with wake-ups and morning cleanup for the emergency shelter.

  • Maintain an atmosphere conducive to a good night’s rest for the emergency shelter.

  • Ensure all clients are provided with adequate bedding.

  • Monitor and ensure the return of all towels, blankets and other Drexel House property issued to clients.

  • Ensure comfortable environment for clients and residents.

  • Visually and aurally monitor shelter bunkhouse and bathrooms to maintain safety and security of residents and premises when appropriate.

  • Ensure clients and residents are completing daily chores.

  • Provide resident services and information.

  • Resource information lists.

  • Deliver messages and packages.

  • Follow up with residents and clients about scheduled items, such as reminder of appointment times.

  • Work with and support volunteer staff and interns.

  • Responsible for providing back up if shift staffing levels require.

  • Responsible for coordinating transportation needs for residents of the facility as well as the Case Manager and Housing Manager’s schedules.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Lead Responsibilities:

  • Helps maintain shelter census by communicating with Coordinated Entry about discharges and vacancies, contacting referred clients, gathering initial information, performing background checks, informing CE about the outcome of referrals, and documenting appropriately in Ragic.

  • Assist in admission of clients to the shelter, including orientation to program, provision of locks and bedding, assistance in completing intake paperwork and assessing immediate needs. Assists in completion of intake paperwork as needed. Documents the above in case notes and shift notes.

  • Ensures shelter client sign-in sheets are complete and accurate. Helps prepare shelter billing forms.

  • Ensures shift change procedures are followed when coming on and leaving shift.

  • Reviews shift notes, client tracker, shelter headcount report and incident reports each shift, client status reports each shift. Works in coordination with Program Supervisor and Housing Stability Case Manager to ensure expedient, appropriate response to emergent resident needs. Documents appropriately in shift and case notes.

  • When Program Supervisor and HSCM’s are not available makes appropriate decisions and interventions to meet emergent resident needs in coordination with Supervisor on call.

  • Is familiar with crisis intervention procedures and protocols and ensures crisis situations are responded to appropriately.

  • In absence of Program Supervisor and Case Manager, conducts contact interview with clients who have been absent overnight from the shelter and approves/disapproves their return.

  • Assists Resident Coordinators in understanding operational processes and procedures.

  • Maintain inventory of materials needed for Drexel House operations including cleaning products; supplies for kitchen, restrooms, and front desk; shelter bedding; clothing; medical/first aid supplies; and donated items in storage. Orders new items as necessary. Ensure B building nurse’s station and machine room are organized in an orderly way.

  • Review cleaning logs on a weekly basis. Identify problems in sanitation/cleaning and reports to Program Supervisor.

  • Transport clients to important appointments as assigned in fleet vehicle and personal vehicle as needed.

  • Ensures approved information for resident community is posted or otherwise disseminated.

  • Helps to ensure that other Resident Coordinators complete all required tasks.

  • Provides coaching for other Resident Coordinators and leads by example.

  • Supports the Program Supervisor in setting schedules, contacting staff about schedule adjustments, etc.

  • Available to help with coverage needs when required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • One year of paid work experience working with populations with diverse challenges, including but not limited to homelessness, mental health disorders or substance abuse disorders OR an equivalent combination of education and paid work experience.

  • Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range varying behaviors.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Willingness and ability to make sound judgments without onsite supervision

  • Work history, which demonstrates reliability and dependability.

  • Provide adequate shift coverage.

  • Committed to developing and safekeeping a workplace that values and supports a positive team orientated work environment.

  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.

  • Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months.

  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing homeless services.

  • Certified Peer Counselor certification.

  • AA/BA in Social Service or related field.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Possess good verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to use a computer proficiently for documentation, data entry, etc.

  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.

  • Ability to provide a negative TB test.
