General Surgery Hernia Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Physician

CHI Health Clinic and Creighton University are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon with Abdominal Wall Reconstruction experience to join our collegial academic team at CHI Health in Omaha, Nebraska! Our center for Abdominal Wall Reconstruction is a high volume magnet program that draws referrals from the entire Midwest and complex nationwide referrals. Building on the legacy of Dr. Robert Fitzgibbons, this opportunity is ripe for academic surgeons who will grow and expand our clinical, research, and educational activities in abdominal wall reconstruction and general surgery.

Candidates will be working in an academic and teaching environment educating Creighton University’s surgical residents and medical students and conducting research in collaboration with scientists within Common Spirit and Creighton University School of Medicine. Hernia center is part of AHRQ and candidate has the opportunity to be involved in basic and clinical research. Candidates Reporting to the Creighton Chair of Surgery and CHI Director of Surgery. Also, candidates are expected to qualify for an academic appointment within Creighton University School of Medicine and commit to its teaching and scholarly mission.

Candidates are expected to be MIS Fellowship trained with a focus on advanced complex abdominal wall hernias with both laparoscopic and robotic approaches. Candidates will join a group of 14 surgeons covering Four Hospitals. This position would only work at one hospital however takes call for two Hospitals 20 minutes apart

  • General Surgery Call: 1 weekday per week and 1 weekend per month

  • Ability to perform (approx. 20%) general surgery cases

  • DaVinci Xi robot surgical system

  • EPIC EMR

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care:

  • Diagnose and treat various medical conditions.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.

  • Conduct thorough medical examinations and histories.

  • Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

  • Provide clear and concise medical information.

  • Foster a collaborative and patient-centered approach to healthcare.

  • Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.

  • Document medical findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

  • Ensure compliance with coding and billing regulations.

  • Diagnostic Procedures:

  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as lab work and imaging.

  • Perform procedures as needed

  • Collaborate with specialists for further diagnostic evaluation.

  • Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.

  • Provide consultative services to other healthcare providers.

  • Quality Improvement:

  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.

  • Review and analyze clinical outcomes for continuous improvement.

  • Implement changes to enhance patient care and safety.

  • Compliance:

  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards in medical practice.

  • Stay informed about healthcare regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Participate in quality audits to ensure adherence to standards.

  • Continuous Learning:

  • Stay abreast of medical advancements and best practices.

  • Participate in ongoing medical education and training.

  • Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • American Board Certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty

  • A valid and unrestricted state medical license or license-eligible

Pay Range

$216.00 - $225.00 / Hour
