About You and this Role

In this role, you will serve as aProcess Automation ManagerforDowlocated inOrange, TX. Sabine River Operations (SRO) is strategically located in the heart of the Dow Gulf Coast sites. As a high value, large site in the Dow fleet, you will have opportunity to learn and deepen your skills across several different technologies and processes.

You will serve as a technical resource and process automation lead for small to large capital and improvement projects regionally and/or globally. You will direct and lead both Dow and contract resources in all three phases of projects: front end loading, detailed design and construction, and commissioning and startup.

The Process Automation Manager role is ideal for an engineer that:

  • Demonstrates expanded conceptual and practical knowledge in their own job discipline and continuously broadens their capabilities.

  • Exhibits strong technical, administrative, and interpersonal skills along with a high level of initiative.

  • Works well in an empowered and collaborative environment with both functional partners (e.g., TES, EH&S, Tech Centers) as well as the value center team (e.g., supply chain, R&D, sales & marketing)

  • Demonstrates strong EH&S record in current and previous areas of responsibility.

  • Clearly communicates verbally and in writing to internal and external partners.

  • Is skilled at building a high level of trust with stakeholders, utilizing the highest standard of ethics and integrity, especially shift and technical operations teams.

Responsibilities

The Process Automation Manager is responsible for the following activities when equipment or instruments are added, removed, or changed:

  • Establish project goals and plan.

  • Track progress, schedules, and costs for the Process Automation (PA) team during all project phases.

  • Complete technical review of the control teamwork and provide coaching/corrective feedback.

  • Determine testing scenarios and oversee the simulation of the control system to test the strategy and improvements.

  • Work with other engineers to determine the project and control requirements.

  • Create the process control overview for the project & develop user requirement system specifications.

  • Estimate the process control cost and schedule for the project and manage against these baselines.

  • Develop functional requirement specification (FRS) for the system & create detailed design specifications (DDS).

  • Develop control software, operator graphics and simulation software.

  • Complete the factory acceptance test (FAT) Commissioning.

  • Provide training of operations and support commissioning and start-up of the new asset.

  • Support employee growth and development through routine coaching and feedback, and development discussions.

  • Develop and maintain staffing plan to support achievement of business results.

MES Developers:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for work execution, tools and systems supporting and interfacing in the space of Production Operations Management.

  • Participate in project scoping activities.

  • Drive strategic solutions in partnership with stakeholders.

  • Engage with stakeholders and cross-discipline and cross-functional global project teams.

  • Perform high level functional activities, such as requirements gathering and gap analysis of user requirements, requires functional and business expertise.

  • Participate in the design specifications, configuration, testing, implementation, and startup of manufacturing execution systems (MES) solutions.

  • Identify and deploy Most Effective Technology (MET) standard solution components to meet project requirements.

  • Support training of operations and support commissioning and start-up of the asset.

  • Support future process improvements and product development/solution roadmap.

  • Engage in the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determination, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), including designing or modifying the basic process control system (BPCS). Design the control strategy and control systems, as well as implementation, which is not typical within the industry.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Material Science/Metallurgical Engineering required.

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (i.e. engineering, manufacturing, or related) required.

  • Technical leadership skills are a must to guard and improve our existing process automation MET.

  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.

  • A minimum requirement of this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in Packaging & Specialty Plastics technology is an advantage. High Pressure Copolymers (HPC) is preferred.

  • Process Automation experience.

  • Knowledgeable with one or more process control platforms (ABB, Siemens, MOD5, Emerson, DeltaV, Foxboro, Honeywell).

  • State Based Control experience.
